When to transition from milk to food?

When are you suppose to transition from milk to food?

And when they do start eating food, should it be the canned wet food or the dry food (the ones that come in those bags)? Or both?

And what would be a good brand? I've heard of Royal Canine, Science Diet, and Purina. Could someone try and rank different brands from the best to worst. I'll try to buy the best my wallet will allow!

i have had some success with mixing wet kitten food with dry kitten food i have soaked in water. I mixed them together to make almost a puree, and them warm it up a bit. seems to work well with 4-5 weeks old. I have even used KMR 2nd stage, and mixed that with wet kitten food, and made a puree, and they seemed to like that too. A huge can of 2nd stage KMR power is about $10.

I do that till they get the hang of eating, and offer them dry kitten food around 8 weeks or so.

If you have the mother cat, she is eating kitten food already. So just leave it out for her, she should have it available all day long, and she will teach the kittens to eat it when she and they are ready. I don't see any need to use wet food, KMR or soak dry food in water unless that is what you already food the mom. They will just start snacking on her dry kitten kibble, she will also show them the litterbox. It will happen around 5 weeks give or take. Don't rush it. They need to be with her until 12ish weeks anyways so no need to rush anything.

With mine they just started eating with momma. They would eat with when she ate her canned food in the morning and then in the afternoon dry kitten kibble. They are almost 6 weeks old.
