Will Persi go to jail? Is he truly a vicious animal?

Poor Persi

Lots and lots of that he won't be too scared and lonely during his stay at the vet's office. I'm so glad he was able to go there though, instead of being impounded at the city shelter!

It's a moot point now, but if it did happen again, I would say it was a stray cat. I believe adult patients have the right to refuse rabies shots, as they do any other medical procedure.

Not wanting to throw the blame, but all this could have been avoided if you had shut the cats in the bathroom or in their carriers for the maid's visit.

I had an experience that could have turned out like this. I took my cats with me to our national hot rod meet in Mountain Home the year before last. They stayed in the room just fine, were more than likely to love up on the maid, no problems there. But when I went to leave, I got everything ready, then carried them out to the pickup. I should have put them in their carrier, but I lazied out. They LIKE meeting new people, etc.

Unfortunately, someone started up their hot rod as we were going by, and although I managed to hang onto Sterling, Punkin was gone like a shot. It took me half an hour of following him before we finally got him cornered and another club member managed to catch him.

Trying to hang onto a panicked cat is like (I keep saying this) trying to hang onto a running chain saw by the tail.

However, I'm looking forward to meeting Persi in May. I have no doubt he is NOT a vicious cat, and I suspect there might have been some miswording in the report the ER filed.

When in kitty jail, your human's stinky tee shirt is a good thing.

Sending "easy time" to Persi and healing vibes to you.
This too shall pass.

I'd certainly be sending the bill for the boarding/quarantine to the Dallas Vicious Animal Org. They demanded the quarantine, they can pay the boarding fee. Believe me, if they didn't pay, I'd be getting myself a lawyer.

I have often thought that Texas has been more trouble than it was worth to the US. We should have left it to Mexico, or as an independant buffer state.

True, but I think that is a lesson that we all can draw from this if we are planning to travel with one or more cats.

Im just catching up too, I cannot believe this is happening to you and your poor kitities!
I cant believe they wont let him be touched by anyone for nearly two weeks, what an appalling law! Thank goodness he's at the vet and that the time is already starting to pass.

Awww, poor Persi. I'm sorry he's in jail for doing something that comes natural for a cat. I just don't get it. He's your cat, and it's not like Persi is diseased. I think those people just like to be PITAs

That is awful! I am just now reading this thread and feel that the ER overstepped their bounds. YOU told them the reason Persi did this and they ignored it. I think it is deplorable that you won't be able to touch your little boy. At least he is going to be at the vet's and not some shelter.

for your little guy and for the days to pass quickly!

Oh my goodness, what a lot of drama!

I was bitten by Peedoodle while at the vet - he was getting his rabies shot at the time
but the vet told me to go to the doctor - who treated me, no questions asked.

I guess NC laws are different from Texan law.

Poor you guys - I will be thinking of you over the next ten days.

I guess we were lucky when Whiskers attacked my Sister. We went to the Dr and they knew how she got all Cut up. Good thing my Manx was there to get Whiskers off my Sister. They didnt even report it and nothing happened. My sister was 5 then and she will be 25 this Summer.

I'm guessing you haven't heard the old song down here, "Freeze a Yankee."

Texas is a great state, but we DO have some odd laws.

The answer, as I found out later lies entirely whether the city of Dallas ERs deem the scratches and bites inflicted as being "vicious". At the whim of who is on duty in the ER determines whether a quarantine is to be done, regardless of current records. Under normal circumstances, the animal would not be quarantined with ample proof of current shots. The whole deal here was that I came in soaked in blood and the admitting woman checked off "vicious" as a result solely based on her determination of visible evidence (in her mind). I still could have maintained Persi under my own keeping but since I was officially in transit, that did not fly either. I will give myself some advice here: Whenever one travels, one should have a copy of these vital records with them.
