Remember When I Posted About Possible Nursing Home Abuse?

Well state inspectors finally sent me a letter letting me know what happened. There was litterally a LIST of things they weren't doing correctly!

"Substantiated Complaint Findings in:
Evaluation of Tenants
Service Plan
Medications
Nurse Review
Staffing
and
Record Checks"

Can you believe that list!!!! Some of the stuff they found was a pretty big deal! Unqualified staff passing meds, med errors, and poor training. They weren't even doing background checks!!!!

I'm surprised they would send you a letter about what they found -thought it's good to know your complaint was taken seriously. Hopefully something is done about all this - instead of a reprimanding, fines, and a weak promise from the home that it will do better in the future.

I sincerely hope that this place is given a right royal shake-up! That's utterly disgraceful!

That's what I'm hoping too! The letter didn't say what their punishment was, so I have no idea what is going to be done about it.

^ Your local newspaper may have a story on it if the home has any serious action taken against it.

In WV, the board of nursing states that with any accusations like this, both the accused and the accuser receive info about the situation. Maybe it is similar with your state and the regulatory board.

That's how it is here in Iowa. I should have gotten the same copy the nursing home did. It just didn't say anything about what they need to do by what time. Maybe I'll google it.....

OMG! That is awful!

I am dead against abuse in the Elderly, I can't stand it...It makes me so angry to think that people do it in the first place. Being a Healthcare Assistant/Support Worker myself, being taught about the subject has made me realise what can happen right under your nose, and sometimes it makes you hurt inside when you think about it.

Let's hope some justice can be done!

Sorry... had to get that off my chest!
