Eight weeks ago, on the advice of several from this site, I switched our cats off of prescribed low allergen food from the vet's to 1) Lamb formula Instinct (grain free) and 2) Duck Meal and Oatmeal Formula Holistic Select (dry).

So far, so good. The Silver Bullet has yet to break out in red, itchy marks around her face again. Usually by six weeks, after a pregnisone shot, they show up like clockwork. Of course, I still have my fingers crossed.

My cats have never been on wet food before, so here's my next question: What they seem to like most is the juice/broth. In fact, sometimes they finish that off, eat a couple mouthfuls of the solids and leave the rest behind until it is are dried and gross. I have taken to dishing it out a quarter of a can at a time, because otherwise we waste a lot. Instinct is SO EXPENSIVE that wasting it makes me crazy.

They have lots of water available so that's not the issue.

Does anyone else have this problem?

(They eat the dry stuff sparingly, usually only if they are out of wet.)

Thanks.

Some cats do like the gravy more than the actual food. You might try mixing a couple spoons of hot water into the dish, to thin it out some and see if they will eat more like that. I always do this once it has been in the fridge because Riley wont' eat it if its too cold or solid.

i seem to have more eaten when i use a pate style - i thin it out a bit, cause it's a bit stiff. i usually buy either chicken soup's wet or authority's lamb & rice - depending on where i can get to when i need wet!
