Okay well a couple weeks ago I thought my cat was in labour but I was wrong. This time she has had some discharge and since she is too big tip clean herself is rubbing her bottom on my carpet. It's discharge for sure. She has been sleeping all day and hasn't eaten nearly as much as usual. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful info for me. She is only about 7 months old and she's pretty small. I was going to go to bed but I am worried she may need me. Can anyone let me know what her behavior should be like just before she starts labour and approx how long after discharge is labour expected. Anything will help.

One more thing she is refusing toget off my lap. Not an issue but she is leaking discharge on me should I be putting her in her nesting box? What should I be doing?

based solely on what i've read here, it sounds like she's close... do you have any kittens yet?

From what you describe, I think she is close., although sometimes a cat will show discharge up to a week before delivery, a lot of the times it is just a half day away!

I think one of the most telling signs is nervousness; digging in their nesting box, frequent trips to their litter... sometimes they are vocal and call for you, not wanting you out of their site. Like your girl is doing now.

The foster I have now actually went out of labor when I left the room. I thought I was crazy, but had picture proof!

The very first cat that I seen give birth, I sat with her all_day and half the night. She had been very nervous the morning/day before. Every time I left she would meow til I came back (weird I know - I think I was a cat midwife in another life!)

Anyway...

I finally gave up and went to sleep. She woke me up several hours later, I heard her digging around. But I am a very light sleeper.

Once it starts, she will breathe heavier and you will see the contractions in her stomach!

Do you have a birthing-kit ready?

Good luck! I'll be watching this thread for a little bit longer. Hope everything goes smooth and quick!

Well no babies yet but she isn't eating her food today. She is just begging for mine which she has been doing since she got pregnant. But here is a question, She has eight nipples 4 are really big and stuck out but the 4 around her front legs have what look to be scabs or hardened something on them. What is this and is this something I should be worried about? I don't want to pick anything as I don't want to hurt her. She lets me touch them and do pretty much whatver I want so they must not hurt or she would let me know. Also I have been wiping her bottom for the last week because she is too big and round and can't reach, is this ok or should I not be doing that. Yesterday I had to do it quite a few times as she had discharge then lots of liquid and she kept trying to clean hurself by dragging herself on my rug. Please any help would be much appreciated thanks

I'm not sure about the scabs, but wiping her is 100% fine. Cats are meticulously clean creatures, it must be irritating to not be able to clean her own bum.

Once the kits are eight weeks old you should be sure to have momma cat spayed. How old is she right now, btw?

she is really young this pregnancy thing was an accident I think she's about 7-9 months old. I think when I got her the lady wasn't truthful with me about her age. I do plan on having her fixed after this littler is ready to go. have you ever seen scabs like the ones I am talking about or should I be worried.

That is really young to have Kittens. She could be older too because my Smokey was and looked like a Kitten. She was 11 when she died but could still pass for a Kitten.

Sending prayers and vibes that all is going well for Little Kitty
It sounds like you are instinctively doing the right thing for her. Just be sure to use plain warm water to clean her, and don't use cloths that were laundered with a scented detergent, just to prevent irritations.
Maybe you could cover your bed with plastic & put old sheets and towels on top and lay next to her. Of, if she prefers, keep her on your lap, but put newspapers and old towels underneath her, cuz it does get a bit messy. The more that you comfort her, the easier it will be for her to relax and let Mother Nature take her course. And at the very end, she may decide to go into her box. I've seen some kitties stand with their front paws on the edge of the box to help them "bear down"..Please keep us posted !!

Is it more like "crust"? It is normal for their nipples to get crusty. It's just dried colostrum that's been slowly leaking. You can gently wipe them off with a cloth if you want, but it isnt a problem. It's just another sign that her due date is getting closer!

I agree with the above one for the "crusty" nipples, mine have done that before, i just used a warm cloth to get it off.
I had a cat that was brought to me by a neighbor who was due kittens any day, when the vet looked her over he said she was only 6-7 months old. She had 7 healthy, gorgeous kittens the next day. It's been 2 years since then, we still have the mama (fixed now of course), and 3 of the 7 babies =] haha

sending love!! good luck!

It doesn't seem like crust the nipples with this are not big they are tiny and I was wrong the first time. She has ten nipples and three are like that

Wow! she is an unusual cat! Normally cats have 4 pairs of nipples, it is non common to run across a cat with 5 pairs! Go mom!

Do you think the scabs are like dry skin??? I'm guessing it is fine, though it wouldnt hurt to take a warm cloth and wipe it off if she'll let you. Dont pick... but if it easily wipes off with warm water, it probably would make her more comfortable.

Cant wait for the update that she's had a safe delivery!

Nothing yet I don't know when she is gonna deliver these little kitties. How do you guys put pics up I can't and I wanted to put some pics up of her then the kittens once they are born. Also I was reading a different thread and they were saying it is good to charge an adoption fee so that the kittens don't go to people that won't care for them. I wasn't going to but it seems I should

You can post pictures by signing up on Photobucket.com I am charging an adoption fee for my kittens but they will be vetted before being rehomed. Some people disagree with adoption fees some think they are good things. I definatly agree with them.

Go to www.ImageShack.us or Photobucket.com and upload your photo.

Resize your photo for the web. I prefer to use ImageShack because they make it easiest to resize your photos, and also because you dont need to register to use their site.

Once your photo is uploaded, copy the code and paste it into your post.

Good luck with uploading them. Cant wait to see pictures!

PS - I agree on charging an adoption fee, as this deters spur-of-the-moment unresponsible owners, as well as cat-haters, or dog fighters, researchers, etc from adopting them. But I also believe that they should be wormed and vaccinated (possibly altered) before going on to their forever home and the adoption fee should reflect that cost.
