I think the Ragamuffins were an offshoot of the Ragdolls. I know there is a difference in head shape/ears and maybe coat. I'm still learning. I haven't seen a Ragamuffin in person along side the Ragdoll to really tell the difference.

Ragdolls were developed by ann baker from some non pedigree cats in Bakersfield, CA.
The Ragamuffin is a breed that is a Ragdoll and a Persian and in some programs Siberians. I personally will not place a Siberian with a Ragamuffin program because I feel our breed hasn't been around long enough or type set to start creating breeds from it. In CFA, Siberian outcross is not allowed and ACFA is the only organization I know of the Ragamuffin can be shown.
The Ragamuffin is supposed to basically be a Ragdoll with more colors. However, Ragdolls to begin with had solid colors so they still have them and some are still being bred, therefore, still not sure what the purpose is. However, I suppose every breed has its place.

As was explained to me at a ACFA (cause I asked the difference) there is a head/ear shape difference.

IMO if the Ragdolls are basically a pointed and bicolor type of cat, then the Ragamuffins should NOT include the pointed/bicolor gene in their allowable colors - when you have a pointed Ragdoll and pointed Ragamuffin its really hard to tell which is which.

I thought Ragdolls were crossed with Persians at some point in time, that's why some breeders advertise as having traditional Raggies - not mixed with Persians? (or Birmans)
