Did anyone watch A Room With A View last night on PBS? (I cant be the only one!)
The ending was such a jolt that I just had to see if anyone else was as depressed by it as I was (am!) I actually cried!! Why cant they just make happy stories, if I wanted to be sad Id watch the news!

I watched it!

Check out the 1985 movie, directed by James Ivory. The movie itself is much better, and the story ends with George and Lucy honeymooning in Florence. It was re-written (and, I thought, needlessly), by Andrew Davies.

I was thoroughly jolted by this ending! That image of George lying dead was horrible!

Apparently, E.M. Forster had this ending in his notes, but it didn't end up in the book, and certainly not in the first movie.
