To the Original poster ...

keep an eye on her. Not every birth goes well. Babies can be breech, cords can be wrapped around necks, babies can get stuck in the birthing canal.

Such things would be best to have medical care for. Babies CAN die if they are trapped in the canal. And if there are others behind that one, they would die too.

So... not trying to scare you, just .. I've seen a lot of litters die because folks *always* assume that mothers know what to do. And they don't always.

If she goes into labor, or a baby is stuck ... do NOT wait. Vets can do something if you get the animal to them quickly. they can't if you wait too long.

Chances are she will be fine though! But if it goes on TOO long, then be aware there is a potential that she's having trouble.

Good luck! And I hope it's an easy birth!!! Do keep us posted and we want PICTURES!!!

Okay.

First of all... fleas will NOT kill a litter. Come on folks. FERALS do *not* have flea protection ... and the breed CONSTANTLY.
People here have said they have seen fleas kill a litter and I believe them.

Second, putting Advantage on a queen about to BIRTH was really BAD advice. Nursing or pregnant cats should NEVER EVER EVER have Advantage OR Frontline OR Advantix applied to them!! READ the warning labels, PLEASE for ALL medications on your animals and PLEASE abide by the warnings!! They are put there to prevent you from harming or killing your pet!
I used feline advantage on my pregnant cat because my vet told me I could. It is perfectly ok to put feline advantage on pregnant cats. I don't know where YOU got your information from...

This is a GREAT time to make the point too - to NEVER blindly follow medical advice on the internet! PLEASE always verify such advice by googling on it or asking a vet or READING the labels on the product.
This is why I gave the advice to use advantage because I DID ask my vet...

So yes, while it is BEST for the mother to be de-loused before she gives birth ... it is NOT required. Kittens *can* become anemic quickly from fleas, and fleas are a disease vector. BUT stray and feral cats give birth to THOUSANDS of litters every minute of every day in holes, and garbage, and you name it, and those litters LIVE and flourish *just* fine! Otherwise we would not have an overpopulation problem! LOL
Yes I would say some of those litters survive but not all...

And for the record, Advantage only works for ADULT fleas. It does NOTHING for the eggs or larva. You will have fleas, as a result. Hopefully nothing harmful will happen to the kittens because of the poisons in the Advantage. but they will STILL have fleas. And they will not die unless you allow the fleas to get that bad to where the kittens become anemic.
Advantage kills the adult fleas which are the problem and then continues to work for 1 month killing all eggs that hatch until the flea cycle is finished. My cats had fleas now they have no fleas after using advantage It gets way more fleas out than a flea comb ever would...

Also, do NOT apply these products to the newborn kittens!! EVER.
You are right on that one they shoudn't be used on kittens and I never said they should.

You are doing good! And bravo for caring for these babies and the cats in general! Just don't believe everything you read and check check check before acting and always read the labels. Warnings should not be ignored. They are there because other animals died or had serious medical issues.
I am not blindly giving out information. On my feline advantage the label only says "consult your vet before using on pregnant or nursing cats" I asked her about it and she said it would be just fine so I used it.

Comments like this probably aren't going to help at all. Advantage is also probably not a good idea on a pregnant cat. I would also imagine that the computer is not hers to sell. Lindsey, would you sell your computer so you could get your cat spayed and pay for the care of the kittens? Try not to be hypocritical. This is not her cat. She did not let the cat remain "unfixed", leading to this litter. Like another member said, she gave this cat a warm place and food, more than she had beforehand. She's young to boot. Give her a break.

Sadosi, I think you're doing a great job, keep up the good work

Sophie had discharge for over a week but had her actual mucus plug right before delivery. Keep us updated...
Actually the cat kind is the EXACT same thing as the dog kind. It just needs to be measured out properly since the dog tubes will usually have a dosage higher than what you would use on a cat.
