I have seen pictures and ads in catalogs for bike baskets with wire cages over the top and/or trailers to pull behind a bike for pet transport. They mostly talk about dogs, but I have seen some pictures of them with cats (can't find now).

Now, I don't have one of these, and I'm not really considering getting one, but what do you think?

If I were to move farther away from the vet, I might consider a bike alternative. (I don't have a car.) Now, even if I did have one of these, I wouldn't take it out on a main drag during rush hour!

Hmm, I don`t know. I don`t think I`d like to transport either of my two in one, I`d worry about having an accident and also they`re down at exhuast pipe level.
I`d rather they went INSIDE a car but I guess it would work for some people.

I've done the kitty stroller thing... when I lived in Chicago and didn't own a car. My vet was four blocks away, so I walked them in the stroller. It's not like you're on the actual street, you're on the sidewalk... and for those who don't drive, it's a good option for hauling our felines to the vet. The bike trailer is another option... I haven't explored it myself...

Now, if the exhaust from cars on your streets are literally coming out of the pipes horizontally, and shooting straight at the sidewalk, then that could be an issue... but usually it doesn't... it dissipates and rises... it's in a gaseous state at that point...

if one doesn't have a car, now do you propose they get kitty to the vet? I'd presume you walk, carrying the carrier... that is no different than the stroller or bike trailer...

As long as the human is walking/biking responsibly (obeying traffic signs, etc), ad not behaving recklessly, then there shouldn't be a problem... I never had an issue in Chicago... more often then not, I had folks stopping me to fawn over the cats...

I see no problem with the bike carriers... the first linked one looks odd to me... like they stripped down a kid carrier to the frame and bolted down a stock animal carrier from Petsmart. i like the third one, the trailer with the fabric... that's closest to the strollers...

One of my bikes is a Fuji mountain bike with a Free Radical extension; I'm saving my pennies for a Big Dummy. Do you think that bungeeing a carry-crate on a wide loader would be OK?

Like I said, i`m sure they`d work for some people but it`s not for me.

I don`t drive but I`m lucky enough to have a few friends who don`t mind taking us to the vet`s and if they`re busy I just pay the extra £10 for a taxi.

This would mainly be for my dogs because I have a bike attachment for biking with them but they are no longer able to run with me very much due to age and joint issues, but they still love to go for short rides and come along when I go biking, and also as a way of transportation. However I also figured I could use it for transporting the cats as well if needed. I currently have a pet stroller which converts into a carrier which I use to transport the kittens short distances... Now that they're getting heavier (one is almost 6 months and over 8 pounds) it really comes in handy. I haven't yet decided though if I'm going to buy the bike trailer.

Another thing I was considering possibly for the kittens was this bicycle basket:
