I feel if you love the taste of meat....don't prohibit yourself to eating it. God put those animals on this earth to consume.
I hate it cuz just because I don't eat it ppl assume i'm a vegitarian....which is NOT so cuz I just don't like the taste and the texture grosses me out.

To me, it tastes just like a meatball sub.
If you pan-fry them in butter, they're even better. Not healthier, but deliciously good especially if you do it once in a while.

oOoMissEoOo, people might assume you are a vegetarian because that's just the word for people who don't eat meat. It doesn't necessarily imply your reasons behind it. A lot of us are vegetarians because we don't like meat.

I eat a lot of fish and nuts and make a huge effort to eat healthy whole foods every single day. I know a lot of people that are big meat eaters that are not healthy by any means. A lot of people period just donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know how to eat properly at all.
Just eating red meat isn't the answer to all your daughter's problems, it sounds so simple of course, but some of the healthest people in the world, in terms of cancer and lifespan, don't eat much red meat at all traditionally (the Japanese). When they do it is very small portions, portions most people wouldn't even understand in the US as a real "meal".

Some foods with iron are fish, chicken, nuts, beans, rice, tofu, spinach and other leafy greens - seaweed is good, dried fruits like raisins, whole wheat breads, etc.
You are so right - she doesn't eat as well as she should. Hubby and I eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of veggies and fruit as well as chicken, beef and pork. I cook everything from scratch, i.e., no instant mixes of sauces or stuff full of additives/preservatives. We are both slim and healthy. She does not normally eat what I prepare for dinner, she prefers to make her own meals. Sometimes those meals are healthy but most often they are not. I usually manage to get her to at least have some broccoli from our dinner or I'll share some of my chicken or steak with her, but she doesn't eat enough quality food IMO. She also eats too much junk food, store bought cookies and sweets also. I know she is 6 ft tall but she weighs the same as my husband who is also 6 ft and 170 lbs. Somehow on him it looks slimmer than on her.

Another big reason not to eat a big steak if you haven't eaten beef in a long time-- you'll probably get a terrible stomach ache because you're not used to it anymore. It won't digest well.

Right, that's how I started out. At four, I didn't understand the horrors of the whole meat-production industry... I just knew I didn't like the idea of eating an animal. It was later that I came to understand the moral aspects of my decision.

OPINION: I think if a benign God had put animals on earth for us to consume, he would not have given those animals the ability to feel love and loyalty and both physical and emotional pain, as many of them clearly do. What kind of God would create them for such a terrible destiny, and then make them suffer so in the course of fulfilling it?

No, if there is a God, I suspect animals are a critical part of his experiment with us: will human beings eventually rise above the early survival-mode experience of their species and realize that their fellow animals deserve greater respect than to be bred for slaughter?

So... I'm just sayin'. (And I think the answer is yes, but it'll take awhile.)

So eat a steak for crying out loud.

*sigh*

I'm really soft hearted when it comes to animals, and don't like cruel farm practices, but food is food!

A craving is your body's way of saying it needs something in that food. And if you attempt to ignore the craving or subjugate it, it only comes back stronger and faster. Pretty soon you'll be eating an entire side of beef instead of a 4oz steak.

So my suggestion is to get the steak, but get the recommended size of 4oz.

This is not true IMO. A lot of people crave really bad food all the time, and they really don't need it. If I ran out and got fries or fried okra any time I craved them, that would be a bad decision. Many people crave foods that are detrimental to their health - that does mean they need to eat those foods and certainly not every time they crave them – especially those with health issues.
But it is all about the reasons why if they will give in or not. No one can make the decision except them. If it is personal, it is personal, no one can tell them what to do, only offer words of encouragement or discouragement.
Sometimes even health issues won't help; I know someone that has type 2 diabetes, but still eats so many sweets and keeps herself very unhealthy. She says what you say, if you crave something, you need it. So when she craves sodas, cakes, and pies, she eats them. Her health is declining more every day, her numbers are out of control, even with medication.
I have an uncle that craves alcohol, and gets alcohol. Sadly, he is an alcoholic. I have a friend that craves cigarettes, but has given up smoking due to their health (heart and lung issues). They sometimes still have cravings, but personally they wonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t give in and find other outlets for the cravings, it gets easier she says.

Why not just buy local meat? You can find small farms where they'll sell you meat, quarter cows, whole chickens, etc. Most places also have butcher shops that seek out fresh meat from local farms. Then slaughter houses and commercial farming is not an issue. You can find a source that provides hormone, steroid and antibiotic free meat this way, free range grain fed, and all that....The meat is more fresh, it will taste even better.

BTW, what is the difference, for you, between eating cows and eating chickens and fish, if the process of commercial farming and slaughter houses are your concern? I guarantee that if you saw how commercial chickens are raised you would be disgusted by that as well. You'd be gagging just from the smell 3 miles away [literally].

I understand what you mean about chicken/fish farming being the same, but i couldn't give up meat altogether. I've tried doing that twice in my teens, and i gave in after 2 days.

I did end up having......chicken maryland, slow baked with a white wine mushroom sauce on a bed of saffron rice. Only because they had it there, their specials change every day or week. I was sooooo close!

Think i better start taking my iron tablets again, i'm meant to get into the habit of taking them every day, but i keep forgetting. I do get a bit anemic anyway i remember i was like that when i donated blood years ago.

I didn't realise this thread would get so many replies. Thanks

Thanks for the update! I wanted to know what happened. Congrats for staying strong to what you believe in, what you wanted to do, even when it wasn't easy and you had temptation.
Btw, that meal sounds pretty good...was it?

It was extremely good, but very rich! The rice was risotto saffron rice, very smooth and creamy. The sauce had SO much wine in it, i could taste it. The chicken just fell off the bone. I don't think i will have it again though. Not because i don't like it, but because it was so big, trying to enjoy eating it with all of that rich flavour made me enjoy it less because it was a bit sickly.

The one i had the other time it was on a garlic potato mash, with an olive/onion/tomato sauce on the chicken, and not rich at all.

Whoops, i just drooled on my desk! lol

I want a steak!
