I don't know about you guys, but on average our cats seem to have a gradual shed....they get fuzzier for a little while and you can usually pet it off. Not chester however, I have been waiting for him to start, picked him up this morning and got a mouthful of fur (keeping in mind, he's a short hair). The zoom groom produced about 2 full handfuls of fur, which is all he would tolerate...doesn't like the over stimulation.
Oh well, I needed to vacuum anyway

It's that time of year! I just came in here from combing Persi and got two handfuls. It makes you wonder how they could possibly produce that much fur from the food they are eating!

My cats don't shed much at all, but often shorthairs will shed more than longhairs. The shorthair seems to get everywhere while longhair often falls out in clumps.

one of my roommates used to have a long hair...she was the only cat in the house, and her hair was so fine that it'd stick to everything in a weird coating way....but you're right, I don't remember her having a shedding season as much.

Chester sure does look shiny today though...and I swear he lost a couple pounds since I brushed him !

Me too.... I didn't think that my two SH kittens HAD this much hair on them TOTAL! lol. I have been using the zoom groom and a bristle brush on them...so far 2 times this week and then twice today and again after they had a bath and I get clumps of hair every time I use it. I'm glad I ordered that air purifier..just hope it comes in before their shed is over.

What's odd, is that my slightly longer-haird SH adult cat doesn't seem to be shedding as much...BUT he has more of a definate outer/under coat than the kittens...They have shorter, but THICKER hair and maybe that's why they're shedding so much more.

My sister-in-law's MH cat has been shedding too (and they brush her waaay less than I brush my SHs) it comes out mostly in clumps...I'll see what look like squished white stringy cotton ball on the furniture, carpet, etc. No wonder she has a hairball problem

How long does shedding season usually last? 1-3 weeks?
