As some of you know, my best friend Minstrel had part of a tumour removed a few weeks ago.

I have been looking on the net for the best foods to give her and keep finding info on immune system booster medications. I just want to give her the best chance to have a good pain free life, I'm not looking for a cure, I know there isnt one (even though if you believed what some of the meds say .....) but I was thinking that even if I gave her a better immune system, it could only help her, right?

I was wondering if anyone had tried any of the meds on their cats, if they made any difference, and if anyone had any opinions on trying them .....

I think it's extremely dangerous give a cat with cancer anything that's not prescribed by a vet. Ask your vet if there's anything your cat should be getting.

My kitten has feline herpes (which appears in eye and nose goo) and my vet recommended L-Lysine twice a day. It seems to clear up the goo when I use it and when I don't, the goo stays. =P But yes, ask vet to be sure.

I second the L-Lysine. My cat also had sneezing (from feline herpes) and my vet told me to give her L-Lysine to help her immune system. It worked wonders. If you do use L-Lysine, I would recommend getting a pill crusher and crushing the Lysine and sprinkling it over wet food. I gave my cat anywhere from 1/2 pill to 1 pill a day. The pills can be bought anywhere where vitamins are sold.

Still would recommend double-checking with your vet though before administering this, since you're looking for something to boost the immune system after a surgery and your cat may be more fragile at this point.

Best of luck to you and Minstrel - hope she starts feeling better soon!

I use the Lysine also for my baby. He's only been on it a month, so not sure yet how much of a difference it will make. Have heard good things about it though...
