I addopted a cat today and she needs to be spayed. She went into heat on Feb 28th so my question is when can I take her in to the Vet to have this done? Do I need to wait till she's out of heat? And how long does that usually last?

Thank you!!!

You can call you vet and talk to them. 5-6 months old is a good age to get them spayed, the vet may charge a bit more because of the heat cycle, or ask that you wait until the cycle ends.

A good vet should have no problem spaying a cat in heat. I know that bitches in heat (the canine sort
) are difficult to spay because their reproductive organs become engorged with blood and it gets too risky. The problem does not exist with cats - so I would have her spayed ASAP. Of course, you need to find a good vet that is comfortable with the idea.

As for her age - the recommended age for both spaying and neutering is 4 months, although even as young as 8 weeks is ok.

My vet asked if Bailey was in heat, but said to make the appointment anyway, because the next heat is so unpredictable, you can never be sure that she won't be.
