That's straight down I-35. It's not the shortest or cheapest way, but it may be the fastest. I used to run a dedicated load for Coca Cola from Dallas to KC, and that's the way I usually went.

The shortest route, I think, is to go down 71 to I-44, down I-44 to Big Cabin, OK, and take US 69 and 75 down to Dallas.

Oh Amy, it would be so great if you could come! But my gosh, that's a long drive... wouldn't you rather just pop down on Southwest? I'd come pick you up at Love Field!

When I used to live minutes off of 71, that is the way that I'd head south. But I have to back track 45 miles to get back to 71.

Just mapquested it from my house. 8 hour drive. Hmmmm.....some flights appear to be about $125 round trip right now. That would be cheaper than driving with gas prices these days! Can you tell I'm in a travel mood?

OK - pick a date and I'll see if I can find inexpensive airfare. And Carol - my only stipulation is that I can swing by Papasito's and get some carry out for my DH. I'd take you up on your offer to pick me up from the airport!

Deal! I just checked, and there's one just west of Love Field, so we can pick it up on the way back for your flight home, and it'll still be warm when you get off the plane in KC!

I'm not in the Dallas area, but College Station isn't that far away, and I have some people in that area that I should visit anyways.
So here's my info.

Your TCS Name: Sandtigress

Your Real First Name: Pam

Will You Be Bringing Your Significant Other (so I can determine the size of meeting space we need)? There isn't one to bring :p

Your Location, With Zip Code (if you'd rather not give a street address, please use a nearby intersection -- this is so I can make a rough map and find a meeting site that will be central to us all): Don't worry about me - I'm too far anyways!

Dates You CANNOT Make a Meeting (between May 10 and July 27): Has to be a weekend for me to come, but probably mid-end June and all of July are best for me

Kinds of Restaurants You Just Can't Stand (Thai, Sushi, McDonald's, etc.): I'm not big on Tex-Mex, but really I'll eat anything

Things You'd Like To Do At The Meeting (play volleyball, sing show tunes, etc.): Meet everyone! I think the laptop idea is excellent

Comments, Suggestions, & Angry Retorts: Haha, what if we all went to the zoo?!

Knowing us, we'd all end up bringing home baby tigers!

Oh, and dates I cannot make: July 7th thru July 24th ish. Still working on the travel plans for my nieces wedding in Paris during that time. But don't set any date around me as I can't commit to anything until I find out if I can find a reasonably priced flight.

I absolutely love this idea!
If the date of the meeting doesn't coincide with my son's visit from Wisconsin, I'd love to come! It's about a 4-5 hour drive from here, but I'm sure my s/o would love the idea too - If we can borrow our neighbor's truck to make the trip, that is.
(our car isn't in the best of shape anymore, and I wouldn't trust it to make it that far.
).

Unless we run into any problems, count me in!

I'll PM the details, Carol.

I'm back on line. I may be off for a while when we move in to our new home on the 28th of April. I talked to DW about it and she is thrilled to serve up a truly great dinner (lunch) which is her custom. If you have never tasted Persian food, you will be in for a treat. Persi the Persian cat can vouch for that! And Persi will great each of you at the door but Alley will be hiding under the bed.

Please give your DW a big hug for being willing to take us on!

Are we all still here? What a storm! The wind and thunder woke me up about 3:55, and I raised the blind just in time to see a vividly green flash of lightning, which I've always heard is a sign of a tornado.

At the same moment, our burglar alarm went off, a deafening wail, and all three cats on my bed (Clyde, Pearl, & St. John)went diving for cover. The power flickered out, but the lightning was so bright and so constant that I was still able to find my way to the panel and shut the alarm off. Mom came stumbling out of her room and whacked her head on something, but she's okay, thank goodness.

The power came back in less than a minute, and when I got the TV on, the first thing we saw was a radar closeup on our neighborhood with a spinning circle superimposed nearly on top of our very house, just a matter of blocks to our west and heading our way! I thought the circle was a known tornado, but later learned that it only indicates a spot with strong upper-level rotation -- which can indicate a tornado, but is not a sure thing.

Anyway, believing a tornado was going to hit us within a minute or two, I told Mom to go get into the bathtub, and I would round up the cats... but only our bravest kitties, Dylan and Pearl, were anywhere to be found. When I hurried into the bathroom with them -- no mom.

Where was she? In her room, getting dressed!

So thank goodness, no tornado touched down here, and we're fine... but I guess I need to work with Mom on this Emergency Preparedness thing. Proper attire is not one's first priority when disaster looms.

I hope all of us who were hit by this long, long line of storms are okay this morning! So far, I haven't heard of any injuries, just some property damage. Hope it stays that way.
