We have an nine month old neutered mail cat named Indiana that we keep indoors. For the past several months a neighborhood tomcat has been coming by and visiting every day. He sits and looks in at Indy. Just today a big rough looking Tom has shown up and they both seem to be fighting over him. We hear them howling and when I go outside there they both are. What gives? Can't they tell he is not a female? Weird!!

Probably it's more like a territorial dispute. The 1st tom was wondering why Indy was not challenging him. The second tom did.

Stray tom cats can stalk, intrude, threaten and cause stress and behavioral issues with indoor cats, spayed/neutered or not! They really can become a nuisance at the least, easily dangerous. The best thing to do is diffuse the property, especially around the house. It sounds odd, but even human urine can work. Definitely don't invite them to hang out, no feeding or watering by your house. If you want to, do so away from the home, you don't want them lurking around.
