Hi All, I have a 16 year old Siamese, Annie.
She is our only cat at the moment. When I cradle her in my arms I hear her heartbeating really fast. When she is at rest it also beats so fast. Does anyone know what the normal heart rate of a cat is. Normal housecat. (Well, close to normal as any spoiled cat can be!

Thanks for the info in advance.

I don't know, but as cats are smaller animals then us, mamals and generally active their hearts do beat faster then ours yes!

Hi Cora- here is a bit of trivia for you-

Cats take between 20-40 breaths per minute.

Normal body temperature is 102 degrees F.

A normal pulse is 120-200 beats per minute. An average pulse is 195.
The best place to feel this pulse is between the femoral artery located just under the skin in the back thigh. Do this when your cat is relaxed, for if he is stressed his pulse will race higher.

(I'm helping a fellow cat lover with a book about cats and had these on hand for ya)
