So a few weeks back the people above us flooded their toilet which then began to seep through our bathroom vent. It was a big ol production, but, no major damage.

Now to today, April Fool's Day. Been contemplating what to do to get my BF. A parent was telling me how her husband got her good by saying that the sprinkler system had broken and the front yard was flooded. She was laughing and saying how he got her good.
I'll tell my BF that they had flooded again funny right? NO. He came home and I started smiling and told him I got him good. He turns on me and freaks out. Saying how idiotic and mean it was of me and asking where I would get such a stupid idea from anyways.

Was what I did really that bad of an idea and mean?

Lol sounds like he doesn't like being the butt of the joke. Tell him to loosen up and be glad April Fools only comes once a year.

Did you tell him while at work? Guys never like to be ticked by their SOs while at work. The joke itself wan't mean but if he was working I think your timing was off.

I hate to say it but you probably stunk up the last thirty of his day.
My DH hates it when I call him at work with bad news. Granted it was just a joke but all he probably thought about was how ticked he was.

You're prolly right I just didn't know when else to do it. I really wasn't expecting him to come home and yell at me tho. I'm not very good at this practical joke thing.

I don't bother with April Fool's jokes because many "jokes/pranks" tend to be mean spirited, and then there is the off chance that the person won't take it well, regardless of the "joke"

If I were to play an April Fool's joke on someone it would be something silly like giving them a gift of a book with the pages glued together, or redirect the link to my website to a strange website, or put up a silly front page message ... something along the lines of that.

So far as April Fool's Day goes, I've always known the rules to be that the joke/prank has to be before noon local time otherwise the joke is on the prankster.

Sorry your husband took it badly. He was probably tired at work and then figured he had a whole bunch more work to do once he got home when all he wanted to do was relax and take it easy.
