Personally I would stay clear of bamboo flooring. Urea Formadehyde is used as a binder.

Most bamboo flooring uses urea formaldehyde as a binder or adhesive, which produces a negligible amount of airborne formaldehyde.
Here is a site that gives excellent information on all types of flooring. There is an extensive area on bamboo flooring:

And here is the process used to make it:

Here are further links discussing the use of urea formedahyde

I'd still use it. If one is doing their best to be ecologically conscious, and chooses bamboo because of it's sustainability, I would think they would be conscious of the formaldehyde issue and do their research. I know I will when the time comes... in fact my dream house is going to be all recycled materials... or sustainable like the bamboo... now i just need to make enough money to buy the land and build the house!!

I just spend quite some time researching what wood floors to get. I considered bamboo but I didn't like the light, natural color. I read that the darker colors are acheived by "carbonizing" the bamboo which makes it much less hard than the natural colored bamboo. I was concerned about how easily the kitties would scratch it.

Whatever you decide it will look great! Good luck!

I'd love it! My university has bamboo floors in it's new 'green' building and it looks great. I do notice some surface scratches on it, but it gets a lot of use.
