My dad was a college professor, so some summers he wouldn't teach summer school and we'd hit the road in the car with lots of camping gear.
We lived in IL, but camped out to both the West Coast and East Coast.

Because of them and travels with Gary for 10 years in the RV, the more major "landmark" places I've been include (I'm sure I'm forgetting some):

Painted canyons in North Dakota
Mt. Rushmore
Glacier National Park
Yellowstone National Park
The Grand Tetons
The Grand Canyon (went down on mules and spent the night at the bottom!)
Hoover Dam
Four Corners
Zuni Indian Caves in NM
The meteor crater in AZ
Gettysburg
Philadelphia
Washington DC

And because of all that camping and the living in the RV for 10 years, the only states I haven't actually been to are Hawaii, Alaska, Oklahoma and New Hampshire.

And you?

You're not missing much by skipping Oklahoma. (I'm sorry to those who actually love and enjoy the boringness of this state.
) There is a big diversity in landscape over the state if you do find yourself passing through sometime.

I haven't really been to many places. I lived in Michigan for over a year and have been down to Louisiana to visit my aunt a couple of times. While in Michigan I did get to go over to Mackinaw Island a couple of times and of course crossed the bridge several times (hated going over that thing in bad weather).

Since my father was Army, we grew up driving all over the place -- we loved it, actually, so even when the Army wasn't sending us somewhere new, we were always doing road trips of our own. And bless his heart, my father never once passed up a roadside historical marker! So it's easier to say where I haven't been:

--Haven't made it to New England, unless Connecticut counts
(though I did change planes in Boston!
)

--Haven't been to Alaska (I dream of doing the cruise!)

--Haven't been to Hawaii

I travel regularly for work, so I've been to a number of places in the US. However, just because I've been there doesn't necessarily mean I've seen that much of it. Most places I go I pretty much see whatever's between the airport and the hotel where my meeting is at. But here are the places I've been to:
Arizona – Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson, Grand Canyon
Arkansas – the Ozarks
California – San Diego, Anaheim, LA, San Francisco, Wine Country
Colorado – Denver and Colorado Springs
District of Columbia – Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve been here a lot, but havenâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t actually seen all that much of it because Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m always working
Florida – Orlando, Miami, St. Petersburg, Key West, Longboat Key
Georgia – Atlanta, Greensboro
Hawaii – all of the major islands
Idaho – Idaho Falls
Illinois – pretty much everywhere
Indiana – Indianapolis
Iowa – pretty much everywhere
Kansas – Kansas City, Levinworth (DH just had to go see it)
Kentucky – Mammoth Cave, Lexington, Louisville
Maryland – Baltimore
Massachusetts – Boston, Salem (going to the Berkshires in August)
Michigan – pretty much everywhere
Minnesota – Minneapolis, the Mall of America
Missouri – St. Louis, Kansas City
Nebraska – Omaha (this was unintentional…my flight got diverted there)
Nevada – Las Vegas
New York – New York City, Albany
Ohio – pretty much everywhere
Pennsylvania – Philadelphia
Puerto Rico
South Carolina – Charleston
Tennessee – Memphis
Texas – Houston, Dallas, Bryan/College Station, Midland/Odessa
Utah – Salt Lake City
Vermont – Manchester, Rutland
Virginia – Williamsburg, Virginia Beach (going to Arlington in May)
Washington – Seattle, Woodinville
Wisconsin – pretty much everywhere
I haven't been to Alabama, Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wyoming.

At the kitty's beck and call
We have travelled to various places in the US since our first trip in 1989!

Sorry if you were reading the incomplete version of this post - hubby just got told off for dragging the cat dancer across the keyboard and making Lily chase it - she posted an incomplete post once and deleted the edited post the next time.

Anyway - we have travelled to:

New York
Boston (briefly, we didn't even get to leave the plane in the end)
Chicago
Tennessee
Arkansas (briefly)
Mississippi (briefly)
Florida (many times)
Colorado - including Mesa Verde which was wonderful.
Arizona - we too rode mules into the canyon - we went halfway down from the North Rim.
New Mexico
Utah
- we visited the four corners monument too
Nevada
- on our journey into Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon we also saw the Hoover Dam and Meteor Crater
California
Hawaii

I know there are a couple more states that I have visited but can't remember off the top of my head. We have seen some amazing things in the US. On the mainland some of the most memorable include looking down on the Rocky Mountains from Mount Evans (near Denver) and riding the Durango - Silverton Railroad - that was fabulous.

ETA - New Jersey - that's one of the places that I forgot!

I knew I'd forgotten at least one thing! I've been to Niagra Falls too.
I really think that, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon were the most amazing things out of all the places I've been.

I forgot about Niagara Falls too.... (although technically outside the US) but still worth the mention

Our vacations were by car and Dad and Mom and I managed to cover a lot of the eastern half of the USA. We hit historic and geologic sites, as well as many daylily garden. We also avoided most major tourist destinations.

Besides the home state of Indiana,
Illinois
Kentucky
Tennessee
Ohio
Michigan
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Missouri
Arkansas
Louisiana
Mississippi
Alabama
Georgia
Florida
South Carolina
North Carolina
Virginia
Maryland
Pennsylvania
West Virginia

Unfortunately Dad died before his dream trip - driving to Alaska and taking a ferry back.

We used to camp down in SC, so technically I've been thru West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina
