OMG! Today I bought this bird feeder to hang outside the window where my cats can see right? Everything's all fine and waiting for morning. Well, I go into 'the cat room' to put away my paints when I see something move out of the corner of my eye, I look, and hanging from the bird feeder is a very long slug! EW EW EW EW EW! It's all squirming and stuff. I run out of there and call my hubby at work to tell him it somehow jumped up to the feeder and I don't want to go out there cause I had no idea slugs could jump
. I finally get the guts to take a better look and there was slug slime all the way down the top of the feeder to the bottom with a long string of slime with a slug hanging from the bottom of it. I grab the slug bait and go outside, shake it around, then come back inside. SO that means that the bug-ger slid down the side of the house, onto the hanger, and down the feeder. Wonderful. I've attached a pic of it for your enjoyment. LOL
*Bird feeder and slug *Slug alone with string of slime

Yuck!!! I hate slugs - especially when you tread on them by mistake in the dark and they make that really horrible squishy noise

HA HA lola. that is too funny!
I can't stand their attanae, or their slime, or their slow movements, or their determination to go over a house rather than around a house...

Tamme: Geee's that one is big! Or at least big for what I'm used to growing up in Maine. I don't mind slugs too much, better then a spider! My first cat I had, DC, used to sleep on my bed with me all the time, one night I felt these cold thing wriggling underneight my bare back where DC was just laying, I got up and it was a slug, soooo nasty! It must have come in on his fur or something (he was an outdoor cat half the time.)

You said it Tamme - Ew Ew Ew Ew Ew!!!!!

YUCK!

My mom had a kitchen garden when I was growing up, and we had a problem with slugs one year. I even hated them is a kid (although I didn't mind any other bugs).

I don't know what happened to the rabbits and squirrels, but she put little plastic tubs with beer in them at the base of the plants the slugs went for. It worked (the slugs would crawl in there and drown, I guess). Maybe the rabbits and squirrels just didn't drink the beer? I don't know. And somehow it bothers me as an adult - although I couldn't begin to tell you why.

What is that?? A mutant slug? Tamme, if I were you I would check the soil conditions near your house because I think toxic radiation is making those slugs bigger!

I've never seen one that size, is that normal for B.C.? I've been all over Ontario and I've never seen one that size!

Or.......maybe it just crawled by my feet unnoticed!!!

Salt the little bugger! I hate them! ICKY! That by far is the biggest slug I have ever seen! The ones in Ohio are only 1/2-1 in long! You know you may in fact have the world's record for the biggest slug! I'm going to show it to my boss who will get a big kick out of it. We call people who are lazy and slow Slugs.

I'm not looking at any pics of slugs!
Those were the only creatures I was almost sadistic about growing up. There were a couple years that we had bad slugs in the garden, so Mom would have me come out armed with the salt shaker. I don't know how many I actually killed because as soon as I would see one I would scream and jump about 10 feet back throwing salt as I went.
I do remember thinking it was pretty cool how they would shrivel up almost instantly and DIE!!!!

The biggest slug I have ever seen was only about 2 inches max. And that was up in Maine, just yoru every day orange slug.
I used to salt them as a kid, but now I cringe and go into convultions just at the thought of it.

LOL! SO glad you had photos to share with your story - gave me my first laugh of the day!

I feel for you, I don't mind slugs in my garden, but hanging from birdfeeders and sliding around on your roof?! Ewwwwwwww!
