A soldier from the Commonwealth who served more than four years in the British Army, including two tours in Iraq, has been told he can't become a British citizen because he applied on the wrong date.

This is indeed a slap in the face to this person. He was refused British citizenship because he wasn't in the country five years prior to his application for citizenship this past January. He was serving in the British Army at the time and even did two tours in Iraq. I realize that may be law but the law is ignorant in this case.

That reminds me of the shoddy treatment Gurkha veterans have gotten. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7300521.stm
