Idiot or not, he is probably saving countless cats just by being photographed with them and fostering several at a time. Bless him. You would never see many American politicians doing that.
It may or may not be true, but I read somewhere the Bush family cat was given to a trusted family friend during their stay in the White House rather than having it declawed so it would not scratch on historical items and antique furniture. Usually I would find this appalling, but it is the White House and the historical items really belong to the people. They intend to see if the cat wants to return home or if it is happy where it is when they go back to Texas.

Idiot or not (and I don't know, I'm not Canadian so I can't say) I think it's wonderful that he is advocating fostering and being such a good spokesman for fostering animals. Honestly, until I came to TCS, I didn't even know sponsership was a need! I never heard about it before and I the best way to get the word spread is either through a politician or a celebrity.

Regardless of his political views, I still think it is great that someone in the spotlight is educating people to free up spaces in shelters to make room for new ones, whether it is cats, dogs, goats, pigs, horses...whatever.

That's great that he's saving cats!

But I say that with his busy schedule as prime minister, he probably can't save as many kitties as he could otherwise. Hopefully he'll get more free time after the next election
