A computer was something on TV
From a science-fiction show of note.
A window was something you hated to clean
And ram was the father of a goat.

Meg was the name of my girlfriend
And a gig was a job for the nights.
Now they all mean quite different things
And that really megabytes.

An application was for employment,
A program was a TV show,
A cursor used profanity,
And a keyboard was a piano.

Memory was something you lost with age,
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3-inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out.

Compress was something you did to the garbage,
Not something you did to a file.
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while.

Log on was adding wood to the fire,
Hard drive was a long Edsel trip on the road.
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode.

Cut you did with a pocketknife,
Paste you did with glue.
A web was what the spiders spun
And a virus, well, that was the flu.

I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head.
For I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash,
But when it happens, they wish they were dead!

Well, I'm not over 40, but I'm surely printing that out and forwarding it... LOL. My grandpa will love it. We're trying to teach him about computers, and what the mouse, does, etc and he just doesn't understand any of it. I guess he's entitled seeing as he's 85. "What can this do that a typewriter can't?!"

Shortly after we got our first computer a few years ago my parents came to visit. They noticed the monitor sitting on the desk and they said "oooh when did you get the new TV?????"

I have got to get this one to my mom. I had just gotten her a new computer last week . I connected it for her and set up her aol account and went home. I got a call from her at midnite, mad as all get out,"I just spent 5 hours on the phone to aol, microsoft and gateway and i still cant get my email to work!" I had her explain to me what she was doing. then i told her "Well mom, you have to dial in to the internet if you want to use the internet!" And what is really remarkable is how none of those service technitions could figure out that she wasent dialing in.So much for that.

LOL! When my grandpa was signing up for AOL, he thought he had to pay for each site he accessed. I went on Yahoo! to find him some information about dogs, and he said "That will be $2, young lady!". Someone told him that it cost $2 for every website you visit so he went for months without going to any websites...

So I had to explain to him that there are no tolls on the cyber-highway, provided he kept paying for his unlimited access.

This is flipping hilarious! I sent it to a number of people, including our tech teacher at school.

Oddly enough, my grandpa is 74 and he does pretty darn well for himself on his computer. He actually bought me my first computer... kept it for 3 months before he gave it to me so he could read all the manuals and would be able to answer any questions I had.
And how many people can say that they have over 2500 songs on their computer from the 30s, 40s and 50s... many of them polkas! He's such a geek!
