Do you have a professional do repairs around the house or do you have an SO or family member who is handy?

I have family members who think they're handy

Mason can fix most things, but he knows his limits and he knows if he tries to fix something beyond those limits I'll kill him

We live in an apartment, so we get all that stuff taken care of by the landlord. When I lived at home, however, my dad fixed everything. I still sometimes give him a ring; he's often faster and better than the landlord or the people he hires

I'm actually pretty handy, but if there's something that I can't do, my next door neighbor is incredibly handy (and needs the money) so I hire him for my big or difficult jobs. Really big jobs, like my roof or my sunroom, I hired a contractor for.

Usually call in a professional just because I have no family anywhere close to where I live and my husband isn't handy... he has other talents.
When I lived in Alabama, though, I had my stepdad help me.

My husband is a contractor and owns his own home improvement company, so he is my go to guy
But that in mind, the shoe-makers kids had no shoes.....

Rob is pretty good -- no, VERY good -- at the basic stuff, and also knows his limits. If he can deal with a repair issue, he does; if it's beyond him or just more time-consuming than he's prepared to deal with, that's what landlords are for, and that balance is good for "brownie points". They're not terrific on the cosmetic things, but where there are safety, structural, contractual or other legal issues, they're on it NOW.

Hubby is Mr. Handyman at our house...But if it is too complex, then we will call a professional

Neil is pretty handy!! We have a nephew though who is a plumber and will do somethings for us in a pinch. One of his brothers (neils) is very handy too.

We have tackled many jobs that most people would hire out. (reshingling roof, building potting shed, tearing down garage, drywalling etc...
