we have a cat who hasn't been fixed yet (she is about a year old, an inside cat, previously an only cat and a little small for her age, so so could use a little more growth).

soon we will be bringing in a young kitten to our home. i have had a lot of experience with kittens, but none of it with a cat who is in heat and around a kitten that isn't hers.

does anyone know what could be the outcome? should we hold off our put up the extra fee and risk to fix her now? advice?

I don't think it will make any difference. If anything, she will be more lovey towards the kitten now when she is in heat. I would definitely not put off spaying her though. Also recommend spaying or neutering your new kitten asap too, it can be done as young as 2 months old and if female, you really want to do it BEFORE she goes into heat for the first time bc it reduces the risk of cancers greatly. Each heat the cat has increases her risk of cancer when she is older.

I strongly suggest you have her spayed before you introduce a new kitten. Whether male or female, she is more likely to be a lot more tempermental and maybe agressive.

No reason she should not be spayed. Too easy for her to escape and get pregnant - spay her first, then bring in a new kitten. BTW kittens as young as 4 months old can and do breed.

Getting her spayed will not affect that. She can still grow. As long as she's 3-4lbs and you opt for the pre-anesthesia blood test that should lower the risks during spaying.

Get her taken care of first before you bring any more cats home. She's had all of her shots already, correct? and should be around the time she goes in for boosters.

At a year, she's not likely to grow much more and as already said it won't stop her growing. Actually cats that are altered earlier (under 7 months) grow bigger, taller and longer than cats altered later according to the Winn Foundation study.

I would definitely get her spayed before bringing another cat in.
