ok your probably all a bit curious why i chose Rumpleteaser....
well i am completely nuts for a musical called CATS, by T.S elliot!
i thought id share as the whole thing is fab!

The naming of cats- T.S elliot
naming of cats is a difficult matter
It isn't just one of your holiday games
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you a cat must have three different names

First of all, there's the name that the family use daily
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey
All of them sensible, everyday names

There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames
Such as Plato, Admetas, Electra, Demeter
But all of them sensible everyday names

But I tell you a cat needs a name that's particular
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?

Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo or Coricopat
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum
Names that never belong to more than one cat

But above and beyond there's still one name left over
And that is the name that you never will guess
The name that no human research can discover
But the at himself knows, and will never confess

When you notice a cat in profound meditation
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought
Of the thought
Of the thought
Of his name

His ineffable effable effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular name
if you look up the play theres thousands of name...
bombalurina, jellyorum and grisabella are all in line for my new girl

cant wait...
is there anyone else out there who also loves this musical as much as me ?

Oh, I LOVE that musical. DH got it for me on DVD for Christmas a few years ago, and even he loved it (and he hates musicals). In fact he loves it so much he got us tickets to see it in DC last valentines day! I listen to "Jellicle Cats" when I'm down and it always cheers me up. "Memories" just makes me cry though.

The play, of course, is actually an adaptation from T.S. Elliott's book, "Old Posssum's Book of Practical Cats."

We went to see it last week in Leeds for my birthday, it's touring the UK at the moment. We were on the front row and got to shake hands with a cat!! It was brilliant, we had a great cast and enjoyed it so much that Andy (my partner) bought me the CD for Easter instead of an egg.

It's not on the West End anymore but Andrew Lloyd Webber does have his musicals tour, the theatre I saw Cats at has Evita on in August.

Notice that the cat who is chosed for the transfiguration isn't any of the ones who could be said to deserve it the most--not Jenny Anydotts with her good works, or charismatic Rum Tum Tugger, or clever Mefistoffolees (sp?)--but mangy old Grizzabella, the one who needed it the most.

That's Sanctification by Grace.

Lloyd Webber was a choirboy at Westminster Abbey, and his grandfather was organist at St. Paul's Cathedral; he must have absorbed something from all those sermons he sat through.

When Grizzabella sings memories I lose it and start crying everytime. I think it's because I think of my old girls that went from being healthy robust kittens, to cats and then in old age they became Grizzabella, and then they exit just like Grizzabella... I miss them!

Here we go again with the tears.....

A killer trivia question that defeats a lot of trivia buffs is the name of the song, which is "Memory."

i'd probably go with Mungojeri - spelled that way, to make it more feminine!
hey, anyone else notice - in the version i saw, Mungojerry & Rumpleteaser were both calicos!
