Hi! I have 2 cats, an 18 month old with teeth issues who has been ordered by the vet to eat a prescription dry kibble (Hills). I also have a kitten (8 months) who is a little fat for her size, and greedy, so in the same vets trip my vet said to stop wet food feeding in my house all together.
However, I currently free feed dry and portion feed wet. I cant free feed prescription kibble because the kitten eats it, I cant free feed regular kibble because the other cat eats it.
In addition to this, we've recently been offered a baby kitten (currently 6 days old). In 12 weeks or so, Ill have a 3rd mouth to feed. One on kitten kibble, one on adult kibble, and one on prescription

My instincts and everything else Ive read on this site makes me sad about stopping wet food!! I just know Ill get a lot of sad kitty crys when their breakfast no longer comes. Plus free feeding will have to stop, Im going to have to portion their dry and feed them seperatly, probably having to lock them up for a bit so they dont eat each others. This, to me, sounds like a nightmare because the oldest cat is used to eating 1 kibble piece every 20 mins throughout the day. Trying to get him to eat a bowlful at once?? It'll drive me crazy. They both drink plenty of water so Im not worried about UTIs because of the lack of wet food.
Does anyone else have 3 cats and 3 food types? Has anyone else gone from wet to dry? Free feed to portion feeding... etc. How long should I expect it to take? I want it to be in place before we get kitten number 3 ideally. Any advice/stories (and a recommended kitten kibble) would be nice. Is there such a thing as a prescription food that isnt Hills? I dont really like the ingredients, but I do want something good for his teeth. Thanks for any ideas in advance!

I have my Cats seperate. Coco is on C/D and stays in here. I take her food away when the other Cats are out here. The Kitten eats the same food as the other Cats now. She was on Iames kitten food which I still give her. i put her in the bathroom so she can eat it. The others Get Blue Buffalo.

I don't know what the problem is with his teeth but my holistic vet recommends raw bones for teeth. She says cats/dogs will never need a teeth cleaning when eating raw bones. Can't both cats eat the Hills?

Thanks, I wasn't sure an 'all stage' was suitable, it always sounded like a bit of a con to me. As for Hills, the vet said no to our other cats eating it.
You mention feeding them bones? What kind? Cooked/raw - clean or with meat? I think he'd like that, he's a chewer. Plus it would give my kitties something other than dry kibble, which seems like a boring diet to me

Chicken/turkey necks or wing tips are good to start with, you can give them a whack with a meat mallet to break them up at first but I never needed to even with 12 week old kittens.

Always raw, with the meat left on them.

Mine also eat lamb cutlets, full chicken wings and just starting on drumsticks. I tatter the drumstick meat for my girl (7 months) both the boys are fine to pull the meat off themselves.
