A family in my neighborhood on March 22, 2008 fell victim of a murder; their cat was killed by someone using a blunt object, possibly a baseball bat. The family found their beautiful long haired white cat with its head bludgeoned in on the sidewalk.

They posted flyers up on light posts around the neighborhood requesting any information on the would be killer.

Their cat was 13 years old; she was left behind when the previous owners of the house moved out; but she stayed around the house and adopted the new owners of the house. The new family took her in and they loved her immensely.

After I got home from talking to the family, I broke down and cried. Even though she was not my cat, the incident was extremely distressing to me. I'm posting this story in hopes of relieving some of my sorrow and pain. With the incident in China last week and now the hardship of having one of my own neighbor's cats killed, it was just too much for me to bare by myself.

I thank you for listening.

I read that and i felt instant sadness. To have loved a animal any kind their is no way you could do that. I am sorry that you had to be personally affected by a misguided person and the reason he/she felt it necessary to commit such a horrible act. I assume with all Gods creatures you just have to know that they are in a "better place"
. I would say do whatever you can to find out who it was and see what you can do in your state about them. Unfortunately in Wisconsin where I live it is legal to kill what people believe are "stray cats" . If there is something you can do I think that it will make it easier for you to move on. Another idea is maybe set something up in your neighborhood letting everyone know that kind of thing isn't allowed either way I hope you the best and giving you lots of love and sending positive vibes from Parker and I.

This person needs to be found and prosecuted. In the state of California, this hideous act is illegal and criminally prosecutable under the California Animal Cruelty Statutes:

"(c) Any person who maliciously and intentionally maims, mutilates, or tortures any mammal, bird, reptile, or amphibian as described in section D, is guilty of an offense punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, or by a fine of not more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment, or, alternatively, by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year, by a fine of not more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment."

Additionally, the family can sue the perpetrator in civil court for damages.

I sincerely hope they find out who did this. Killing and torturing animals is also a sign of serious psychiatric disorders and is often associated with child abuse and other forms of cruelty directed at humans.

My heart goes out to this family whose pet was so violently taken from them.

What a horrific tragedy to occur in your neighborhood!!
I am sending prayers and vibes that the perpetrator is quickly discovered and prosecuted!! I hope that AC & the local law enforcement will get involved to help solve this case before it happens again (and again, and again
)
And adding protection vibes for all the other kitties (and other possible victims including puppies & small children) too

man, this
upsets me !! I volunteer for a local animal shelter and I've heard ALL the stories. A couple weeks ago they had to put down a dog because he had been severely beaten with a ball bat and his back was broken. What kind of miserable, loser/coward has nothing better than to do than harm innocent animals???!!!! And yes, idiots that do this have no respect for life and will also be abusive to other humans. Y'all don't even want to know what I'd do to these
if I could get away with it....

The lesson to be learned from this is: keep your cats indoor.

You don't have to be especially evil to abuse an animal. You just have to be a normal human being who doesn't care.

I hope the person is found and punished. Thats just terrible! My cat that I had when I was a kid, Dummy, liked to sneak out, one day I found him on the sidewalk with obvious shoe prints on him. Someone stomped him to death! I can't believe that some people are capable of such crimes!
