This Brit won't be selling her Dyson Animal because it's excellent. I wish i'd bought one sooner

I had a really powerful Panasonic, but when i bought the Dyson it picked up so much cat hair that i couldn't believe it. You could see the difference as well.

i would buy a roomba that way i can put it on the floor turn it on and it sweeps itself.[/QUOTE said:
I have a roomba that I got for Christmas. Although the roomba is a great vaccume, it isn't very good with pet hair. I run the roomba at least every other day for several hours. Every 5-10 minutes, the roomba brushes, wheels and lint trap gets clogged up with cat hair. I have to empty the trap and take the brushes apart to get all the cat hair out.

Thank you for starting this thread, Ive been wanting to get a Dyson, and have been asking FH to get it for me this christmas, but I will have to have a closer look into the vaccums over there. Over here they cost 450 EUR and i can immagine that in Australia they will cost almost $1,000 AUD.

I am so sick of Laminated floors, I want my carpet back!

My Husband owned those expensive Oreck vacuums when we first got together - it held up well for a bachelor with no pets who vacuumed every three months but didn't do to well with me my long air, and animals - after we moved in together vacuuming took place much more often than quarterly . My cheepeis last at least two or three years and that is using them at least three times a week and sucking up human hair as well as cat hair - mud leaves grass, little rocks dead bugs food particles kitty litter ect

I would get a $100.00 machine that was easy to empty in trash out side and forget the expensive ones. In our family it isn't only cat hair that gets sucked up into those things - I have long thick coarse hair that kills the rollers of just about any vacuum.

Although cat hair can be a large part of what we clean off the floors it probably isn't the only thing. . . I know for me it isn't and my kids are grown and gone.

We got a Dyson Animal a couple of years ago after our old vacuum cleaner bit the dust. It is and has been fantastic.

You do have to bear in mind however, that most of those you have all cited as alternatives are not available over here, so I don't know how the Dyson compares with those. Also, they are expensive at full retail price, we shopped around and got one when one of the stores was doing a promotion and the price seemed much more palatable that way.

I wouldn't swap my Dyson! With regard to emptying the canister, there is a flip switch that opens the bottom of the canister and deposits the dust/contents into whichever bag you are using to dispose of the rubbish. I have found that to be a cleaner job than changing the bag on my old bagged vacuum cleaner. Although there may be some dust that gets back into the air, it is by no means as much dust as is exhausted through the bag of a bagged vacuum cleaner everytime it is used.

About a year ago I was thinking about sinking money into a Dyson because of all the ratings. I truly thought that they were the ONLY brand that could suck up cat hair.

Both B and I each had a $50 vacuum that broke or could suck up stuff on a hard wood floor (mine was auto adjust).

B brought home a Bissel upright...I can't remember the model, however he paid $80-90 for it and does WONDERS! Has the bare floor option, Hepa filtration, bagless and sucks up the fur like no tomorrow.

My cannister vaccuum is slowly going-the on/off switch doesn't work and not worth repair price. The small vaccuum shop I bought both my vaccuums at doesn't recommend a Dyson-he days there are much better machines available for a better price. When you have to replace the filter its at least $45.
Just make sure your new vaccuum cleaner has a HEPA filter though.

The Eureka Boss line is rated one of the tops! I just got one and it outcleans my old Fantom Fury.

Here is my line of thinking: they keep improving these every year, so if my $120 vac only lasts me three years, I'll happily replace it.

I have lots of bare floors and the canister models work best for hard surfaces. And mine also has a turbo attachment for furniture and it is fabulous!

If something breaks, then you don't have a dead vacuum as long as you're within the 5 year manufacture warranty. Dyson's automatically come with a 5 year warranty.

We have the DC18 Slim model and it is the best vacuum I have ever owned. You don't have to buy bags for it, you don't have to buy filters for it. It never loses suction and you have the clean the filter maybe once every 6 months. We've had ours for almost a year and have never cleaned the filter and the suction is still as good as the first time we cleaned with it.

I will never go back to another vacuum cleaner again. Even if Consumer Reports rates another one as the "best buy." That's in other peoples opinions, not mine.

Consumer Reports is probably one of the best "opinions" when rating stuff. That's fine for those who like their Dysons but I think there are better ones out there for far less the price
