I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the local Mars plant is starting production of Nutro next week (300 ton run to be exact), supposedly because a few other plants are having problems with salmonella -the rumor could be wrong. That would be more of a risk to workers and owners who handle the food then it would pets, though.

Does that consumer affairs.com web site ever cite anything specific that can be verified independently? When there really was a problem last year, Nutro (as did many other companies) took swift action regarding recalling their foods, installing greater supervision, and, in Nutro's case, taking wet food production out of third-party manufacturing hands.

When either a .org or, preferably, .gov site with specific examples starts issuing warnings, I'll believe a little bit faster. Otherwise, I'll still trust my vet more than a bunch of nameless 'Tom from Reno' citations.

hmmm, this is intresting, considering that my cats eat nutro dry in the morning and Maggie was just so sick. Also, Jordan has the runs again and he was eating nutro dry yesterday. I guess I'll switch to some other dry and see what happens.

My cats had very regular vomiting when we fed Nutro Max. I tried Nutro Natural Choice, and they still had problems. In fact it was worse with Natural Choice (and we tried regular & indoor).

We switched to Iams Healthy Naturals and no more vomiting aside from the occasional hairball.

As I fed them a new food this morning (grain free I've been wanting to switch to), I realized that other than Levi none of them had been eating their nutro very well lately. I don't know how much truth there is to issues with nutro, but I'm just happy my babies like the grain free.

For me personally, I wanted to switch my cats anyway. I don't know if they are sick of nutro, but they have not been eating well lately. Also, I noticed that it appears that my pet store is in the process of getting rid of the old nutro natrual formulas and replacing them with the indoor formulas. I tried feeding those when they first came out and my cats refused to eat the indoor formula.

I think Nutro just changed the formula on the Maxx dry lately (new bags, certainly); I was in Petsmart last weekend, and didn't notice any change on the Natural Choice line-up, but I buy indoor anyway. So far, so good - but cats are weird - mine don't favor fish-flavored foods for some reason.

I would like to point out that Nutro has many more compaints and very recent ones. Canidae has very recent also, but Natural Balance and Iams do not. Plus many complaints on Iams seem to be actually of Alpo? and were not Iams at all. Isn't Alpo Purina?

I have had a cat get sick on Nutro foods as well. This was last fall maybe October? I think I made 2 posts about the food. Nutro is a company I really lack trust in. I personally will not feed Nutro.

Realize ... that those posts are few compared with the amount of said food feed... I have issues with all the foods above but I also have perpective

At the moment another site I frequent is having issues WITH at least 8 different brands ... any animal can react to anything... if yours is then take them to a VET and get to the bottom of it DO NOT speculate
