I'm in the process of disputing one of the accounts on my credit report, and my rating dropped. Is it normal for this to happen while an investigation is going on?

Yes. If it's resolved in your favor you'll see your rating go back up.

I know you most likely know this but I'll post it anyway. The best way to dispute an item is directly through the credit reporting agency itself. They have a strict time frame they have to follow that is set into their regulations. If you go directly to the company it can become a huge mess and take a lot more time.

I went through the credit reporting agency. If I remember correctly they said I should receive a letter about it within 35-45 days.

That sounds about right.

Good luck with your dispute. Remember to check back in 60 days, after you get the letter, just in case the company decides to put it back on your report. There's nothing more annoying than that.
