Hello everybody.

Right i have a weird situation

my cat (8 months old), a cross between a siberian and a maine coon used to eat and erm... poo just fine.

but i tried him on some new wet foods and erm how shall i say it, poo sticks to the hair of his bum/back legs.

causing us to have to get in there with a cloth and wipe it all off, nasty stuff.

now im wondering why this happens, it used to also happen when there wasnt enough litter in his tray, maybe he was standing awkwardly or something and had trouble aiming.

anyway any ideas or thoughts?

Cheers alan

well, i don't have any longhairs, but if i did, i'd be taking them to the groomers for 'sanitary shaves'. they clip the hair back there & that helps with this problem.
so, what food are you feeding now? my Cable has that same reaction when i feed too rich of a food. fortunately, she's a shorthair, so the results aren't quite as icky.

Do you mean he is having a soft stool with the new food where he didn't with the old food? If so, you might be right, there is something in the new food that disagrees with him. Soft stools are indicative of incomplete digestion. If he isn't able to complete digest the new food he isn't going to get full nutritional benefit from it and you shouldn't feed it.

Why exactly are you trying to change foods? Is there another problem the vet is trying to resolve?

probably the food change, then.
btw, Iams is not the best choice. there are several food threads in the health & nutrition section w/good recommendations, if you want to get him on a better food. there are also suggestions for transitioning to a new food.
good luck!
