I was dorking around in google and found this. I think this is really up. It makes me mad. http://www.slate.com/id/2126249

Poor little kitty. At least he's now free from that horrible life.

I guess we will never know what went with wrong with Goldie. It sounds like she did try many methods, however, maybe rehoming would have been a better option. And I don't agree that they should have gone to HS to have the "deed" done - c'mon lady, that doesn't wash - if she truly cared for Goldie, she would have gone to the vet herself, had the courage to be there. Two words that she should be dreading are "karma" and "juju".

Honestly, I wouldn't do what she did, but I can see why she did it. She tried everything everyone here would have suggested and it didn't work. She tried Felineway, she tried putting him in a room and retrain him, she took him to the vet numerous times. Living with cats that insist on pooping on the floor (right after I clean the litter box) and peeing on the counters, the dog food dishes and the bathtub, I can understand how it can just be too much....especially after having to spend all that money on recarpeting just to have the cat start peeing on the bed (I have one that does that too).

If she took him into a regular shelter and told them why she is bring him in, they would have smiled, said they would do their best, and put him to sleep as soon as she left. That was not a cat that could be rehomed. The fact that he was "throwing" himself against the door when he was in the basement with food, water, litter box and bedding makes me think something was wrong with him. What cat, when put into a new room, won't go exploring? The LAST thing most would do is make a fuss until they got familiar with the room.

I can understand why she made that decision, but I do think she should have found a no kill shelter instead.

If this person tried everything, then the last resort (rather then put to sleep) would have been to find him a country home where he could be outside and pee where he wanted.

I agree with GoldenKitty.

While I'm not in her shoes as far as the situation goes, I disagree that she considers herself to have "ancient Egyptian's admiration for their grace, beauty, and mystery". If that were the case, she would not be flaunting her choice to "kill" her cat, as she choses to say it.

I do feel there were other options. At the very least, a country barn home. IMHO.

I also take resentment to the fact that she is insistant that we do not judge her or make presumptions about her actions or choices, yet in the same breath she also insists on making presumptions on what we would be willing to take on and possibly cure, by saying " Please don't tell me you would have taken in Goldie. You wouldn't have....."

So we (as the general public) aren't allowed to have a comment, but she can tell us what we would or wouldn't do? Yeah... I don't think so.
