DIY for wild boars?

My family and friends in the U.S. think I'm exaggerating when I tell them that we have wild boars strolling down Main Street here, and that I hate driving at night, because there are so many accidents involving them.

Here's the latest story; this was in another part of the country: http://www.spiegel.de/international/...541867,00.html

Wild boars are becoming an increasingly common sight in Germany, as their numbers have been boosted by increases in the production of maize, which they like to eat. Boar-related property damage has likewise been escalating.

Unless it was an adult male. A couple of times I started cooking boar meat, and had to throw it out because of the urine-like stench.

We had a huge cull in the woods around here several weeks ago, but it didn't alleviate the overpopulation much, so there's an "open season" on boars. All the butchers and restaurants have specials on boar meat.

I hate to see them killed, but know how bad the problem is. We live in a semi-rural area, and our town is surrounded by woods. Just a couple of years ago, there were several accidents in one night on the road leading to the next town, with about 14 dead boar, and 6 or 8 seriously injured people. It was horrible. In winter, I walk to and from the train station in the dark, and have frequently been scared out of my wits by boars wandering around in town. You definitely don't want to rile them.

They are dangerous, and I'm glad to see that the local community has gotten together and decided to eat some of them. They really are good.

I can totally feel you on this. On one hand you understand that they are an animal and they are just doing what they do. On the other hand Wild Boar V Car isn't a game I'd like to play either.

Our local deer population has gotten out of control in the past, and hunters have gone nuts bringing them in. I hope the same thing can be done in your case.
