ANY OTHER CALIFORNIANS OUT THERE PLEASE VOTE!!!

Dear California Residents: The Animals Need Your Voice!

As you may know, one of the best ways to make lasting improvements for animals is to change the laws. Currently, there are several bills in the state legislature that would dramatically improve the lives of animals in California, and your help is needed.

AB 202, introduced by Assembly Member Ellen Corbett, has met with serious opposition from bird breeders and retailers. If passed, AB 202 would prohibit the possession and sale of unweaned birds in pet shops, similar to California's laws prohibiting the sale of unweaned puppies. Hand-feeding baby birds is a delicate process and, if performed by inexperienced store employees or untrained customers, can result in serious complications, including infection, aspiration pneumonia, burned or punctured stomachs, malnutrition, starvation, emotional and developmental disorders, or death. This law would finally place some responsibility on breeders and pet stores for providing adequate care. To read the text of AB 202, please see http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/a...ntroduced.html

AB 342, introduced by Assembly Member Paul Koretz, would prohibit the hound hunting of bears and other mammals. During such hunts, hounds are strapped with radio shock collars and trained to drive the frightened animal up a tree, after which the animal is shot down by hunters. The stalking and killing of predators using hounds is devoid of "sportsmanship" and conducted by unscrupulous people who see nothing wrong with shooting frightened, trapped animals. AB 395, also introduced by Assembly Member Paul Koretz, would prohibit the declawing of all domestic and exotic cats. Declawing is a painful, permanently crippling procedure involving the severing of ligaments and tendons in order to remove not only the claw but also the nail bed and part of the terminal bone of the toe. This bill may be heard in the Committee on Business and Professions on March 20, 2003. To see the text of AB 395, please visit http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/a...ntroduced.html

AB 588, also introduced by Assembly Member Paul Koretz, would establish a statewide ban on the practice of pound seizure. AB 588 may be heard in committee on March 21, 2003. Pound seizure is the selling, giving, or furnishing of any live animal from a shelter or humane society to research facilities for the purpose of experimentation, research, testing, or demonstration. The ultimate fate of animals given to research facilities is death but not before they suffer terribly at the hands of vivisectors. To see the text of this bill in its entirety, please visit http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/a...ntroduced.html

Call or write to your legislators and urge them to support these important bills. To identify your legislator, please go to http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html

Please share this alert with your family, friends, and coworkers. Thank you for your time and for speaking out for the animals.

The hyperlink is including the period at the end of the sentence. If you remove the period it will take you there! I am editing it to work in the first post!
