lower back growth near spine-what it is?

The cat had a lower back sore muscles 1 week ago but has recovered.
Yesterday all the symptoms came back (can't jump high, lower body
flinched down when it is touch, meowed in pain). It was noticed that
there was a HARD bump (size of half of a penny, near the spine area.
She meowed in pain when that spot was touched.

Does anyone know what this could possibly be?

It could be an abscess. I'd have your friend take the kitty in right away to have the area examined by a vet.

My first cat had a lump under the skin at the base of the tail, he had it removed and it was a gray colored cyst. It was non-cancerous though, but he was happier after it was gone.
