is the cheapest wet food better than average/cheap dry food?

Yes. All but the most expensive drys (EVO, Orijen, etc) are *way* too high in carbs. Plus, wet food provides much needed moisture to kitties diet.

I don't doubt it. I didn't mean to imply that it is impossible for cats to get all needed moisture from sources other than their food. Just that their food can be an important source of moisture.

I think the ingredients and quality are far more important than whether the food is wet or dry. The wet/dry food debate is one of those things that will likely never be settled, but if your cats drink plenty of water, it's okay to feed them dry food. Where cost is the main concern, dry food is a better option, IMO.

Riley has dry food available at all times and gets wet food twice a day. I make sure his dry is the best quality I can afford, and that he likes. The wet food I try to always buy premium brands, but he will sometimes get a lesser brand because its all he will eat at the time. Some wet food is better than none, even if it isn't great quality. But if wet was all he ate, I would make sure it was a very good food.

If you feed a low end wet you should try to feed a high end dry ...
