This is so sad....

How sad....of course, no one wants to get involved to help people like that until the situation gets totally out of control. I am sure that the woman initially was doing the right thing, but until a person like that realizes that it's okay to have wonderful, adorable kitties euthanized when there are just too many and no options, they will spiral down into mental illness & become a collector.
As a side note, 3 dogs in the same community were found hung and burned...sounds like an area where pets are just "animals", which would explain why that cat "sanctuary" became "hell" instead.

I grew up within driving distance of that town & the people of that area are just like anybody else in America. While there might be a stronger hunting culture around there than in some other places, the residents are no more cruel than what you'd expect to find in Florida or California.
It's a sick sad situation that reflects our culture as a whole-that animals are disposable just like Bic lighters & paper plates. It makes me sick.

Cat Sanctuary Owner Facing Animal Cruelty Charges
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says a team of workers rescued over 600 cats from the Tiger Ranch Cat Sanctuary
Quote:
Tiger Ranch has been billed as a no-cage, no-kill sanctuary for cats; but Nelson says it was anything but. "She describes it as a sanctuary. I describe it as just pure hell."
Basically, it seems to be yet another example of an overwhelmed rescuer turned hoarder.

Thank you!

It always depresses me to hear stories like this one.

Just WOW...
How do these people not see they have a problem?

Hording is a mental illness. This person needs help not jail.

It's a sad thing when something like this can go on for so long.
Where were the authorities and experts that should have been aware of those suffering cats?
It's infuriating.

Sending loving thoughts to all the cats who remain alive.
For those who didn't make it.
Rest in peace babies.
