Hello my name is Jeffrey and I have 2 awesome cats.

Maury is my male Persian-Himalayan seal point colored and is about 4 years old.

Coco "Coconut Queen" our beauty the White Persian, is my baby! She is almost a year old and got pregnant about a month ago.

I need some tips as my dad is only familiar with dog pregnancies and I am new to them all!

We are expecting the kittens in early to mid april. We havn't tooken coco to the vet should we?

Is there anything we need to get as far as medicines or special food? What should we be expecting, any tips and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I am, by no means, an expert, but many many people here are, so I am sure you will get LOTS of expert advice.

One thing I can tell you is you'll want to start moving her onto kitten food around now, she'll be needing the extra calories and nutrients. My understanding is that kitten food should have everything she needs, and you shouldn't need anything extra.

Usually, I would say there isn't any need for a vet trip, but I think that Persian cats can be tricky with delivery because the heads are much larger than is typical on most cats, so you might at least want to give your vet a call, see what he/she recommends. At the very least, give them a heads up that she's pregnant, and make sure you have a number that you can reach someone at 24/7 in case things during delivery don't go smoothly.

Otherwise, I would say, settle down with Google.com and type in "cat pregnancy" and you'll find quite a lot of information! Give it all a good read over and I'm sure there'll be plenty of info coming from here too, and in the meantime, give Coco lots of love.

I'm assuming the cats are up to date on shots. If not, talk to your vet as some vaccines can't be given to pregnant cats.

Did you test your cats for genetic problems? Have they been tested for FELV/FIP?

Also as far as feeding, I would start the female on high quality kitten food about 1/2 way thru the pregnancy - at least start 3 weeks before the kittens are due and keep her on that till the kittens are weaned.
