I have a huge lot of propriety, so we get plenty of unwanted/abandoned/stray cats that decide that my place is comfortable enough to have babies or just hang out. About a year ago, we had the oldest (and the matriarch of outside) give birth to 7 kitties. One was black and white striped, and we named him Keo (Swahili). I had to step in when he was born and make him breathe, then clear his airway to keep him alive. Well he made it obviously, but he came out with an odd quirk. He suckled himself until he was raw. Grown cat, he still suckles himself, purring up a storm and massaging anything he can reach while in the act.
Another kitten from the same mother also stole my heart and ended up with an interesting habit. He got attacked by dogs when he was about 6 months old. He had no obvious wound from it that I could see on initial checking, and when I saved him he attacked me because I scared him so I couldn't check until I got him inside. He ended up having some pretty bad punctures to his diaphragm and large intestines, which they fixed. He still has to have his tummy drained every so often of air that leaks through which isn't a problem. I call him my 600 dollar cat, he now lives comfortably indoors with me and 3 other older cats.
One day he was playing with his toys, mostly his mice. He'd pick it up, bring it over to me and drop it. It actually took me a while before I realized he was doing it, it was bugging me so I picked up the mouse and threw it to distract him. Much to my surprise and pleasure... he brought it back and dropped it on my lap. Pick it up, throw it, he brings it back and drops it on my lap or my feet. Over and over. For hours.. I've never seen a cat do this, I adore it.
Just a couple of my favorite cat memories.
