Wellness dry - cost vs quality

I was pet store last night looking to add another dry to my rotation.
I was thinking Wellness. Well I look at cost $20. for a 5 lb bag
on the Indoor. Is this brand that great that it worth that cost
or is it just and way of telling the consumer we are the best
and you will believe due to cost.
My cat is about 4 1/2 yrs and has had UTI's in past, the dry
I am feeding is Nutro Max and Ckn. Soup at the moment.
I did notice the Indoor has alot of Cranberry mentioned.
I had tried the sample core before but my cat is not thrilled on it.
So I was looking at the regular - indoor since I would like to cut
calories but have a good protein. She is a little chubby.
I also would like a good dry food for her dry skin, especially
in winter, she does have those flakes.
Dont get me wrong I only have 1 cat so this cost will not kill me,
but it would if I had alot of pets and not even consider it.
A woman went by me in the store with Wellness for cat and dog
in cart and she could not say enough about the product.
What is your experience with this food? Please tell me the good and
bad if any.

I've had nothing but good luck with Wellness Indoor Health until just recently. In my last three bags (all date Jan 2008), I found hard white chunks sticking out of many of the pieces of kibble. I contacted Wellness about it, and they're testing it. As soon as this is cleared up, my cats will be right back on the Wellness Indoor Health.

At one time Wellness had garlic in some flavours which isn't good for cats.

For a cat prone to UTI's a wet diet is the best diet and a water fountain is a big plus.

I've cut way back on dry food and added wet food (took some time, experiments and patience to find a wet food they would eat).

wellness is a good food ..... it would be better a little cheaper since the ingrediants mimic alot of lower cost formulas..... I RAVE about the CORE dog food .... I now have two dogs on it and wow ...

I liked feeding my cats Wellness kitten earlier last summer because I felt it was such high quality and they really enjoyed eating it too, but it gave one of the girls tummy issues so we had to switch.

regarding the dry flakes in the winter, how much humidity do you have in your home right now. My kitties had flakes most near their tails in the winter - til I got my whole house humidifier. Helped them out a lot, and my own dry skin as well.

I forgot to mention I do feed approx 4 0z wet per day over 2 meals
with water added.
but the quality of canned is not always the best quality, but
she is accepting more brands of better quality.
She will not use a water fountain, too scared of it. darn it.

My plug in humidifier died, I have not replaced yet, but I do put a couple
of water bowls in front of the forced hot air register.
My vet sold me special omega oil suppl. for add to food, but she
will not eat it mixed in, too fishy. funky smell.
I also bought salmon oil additive, but again to smelly.
I was thinking buying empty capsule to put it in, and pilling it, might work.

The whole house humidifier (well, for me a whole condo) is usually purchased and installed by your HVAC guy. If I remember right, mine cost between $400-$500. It's sort of built into your furnace, gets water directly from your water supply, and, in my case, the filter gets changed once a year when the furnace guy checks the furnace in the fall - the humidifier filter is about $20. The nicest thing is you don't have to worry about cleaning the humidifier every week or whatever. It really did make a difference for me. And, when I pet the kitties, no sparks fly anymore!

Yes, I have one of these but they're annoying to keep running all of the time.

Thanks Darlili! I'm going to shop around and see what I can find out. This is an awesome idea. I have terrible year-round allergies and anyway I can keep the dust and fur from flying around is a huge help.

I used to have room humdifiers, but at least for me, it was worth spending a chunk of last year's tax refund for the whole house version. Much more carefree, and the $20 annually or so for the filter change isn't that bad. But, I'm one of those with a contract with my HVAC company - they come out twice a year to check furnace and AC so it's not a separate service call to change the humidifier filter.

It was funny when he came to put the humidifier in - my Dharma, all six pounds of her, spent the entire time supervising the poor guy and checking out his tool box. He was very nice about it
