Two kinds of bashing at once, and by an elected official at that

This woman said "I honestly think it's the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam".

What's the 'it' she's talking about? Why, gay people, of course. And when a tape of her saying it became public, she refused to apologize.

She went on to say they're "going after two-year-olds".

Her defense is that she has freedom of speech... which of course, she can say whatever she wants. All she's done is proven her own idiocy, in this case, and I really hope they laugh her off the ballot next time.

And, what gets me more, is that though the news is all over the bigoted attitude towards gay people expressed by this, nobody has mentioned the obvious attitude she has towards Islam. Who said Islam is a threat to our nation? It's a religion!

Who elected this woman?

well, if that is what she believes, why apologize for it.

Saw that on the news earlier, sadly that's a very common sentiment in this state.

Hmmm...I wonder how she can still maintain sanity? She goes to work as a politician for peoples rights and comes home at night as a devote christian and condemns gay people.

I would be a little crazy...that almost becomes a fuzzy gray line between church and state..

If she said this about any other minority group she'd be fired.

I stand up for her free speech rights, but I also stand up for the people who elected her to either attempt to have her removed or vote her out of office in the next election.

It's kinda hard to represent a constituency when you hate part of it for no reason whatsoever.

She doesn't need to apologize for being an intolerant halfwit, but she should probably choose a career that doesn't require interaction with other humans, doesn't have her purporting to represent the best interests of other people, and in which she's not responsible for anything.

This goes well beyond a person feeling that gay people shouldn't be allowed to get married, which for some reason or another is socially acceptable.

She said all in one sentence that every Islamic person is as much of a threat to our country as terrorism, that gay people are worse than terrorists, and that there is no difference between being gay and being a pedophile. All three assertions belong in the mouth of Fred Phelps, and not a civilized human being.

I know you're just playing the devil's advocate, Bruce, but I also know that there are people out there for whom this woman is a hero.

I would sooner have someone come out and say what they really think VS telling me what they think i want to hear.

It would be up to people in her area, if they want to vote for her next time or not.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion. However, as a politician she should think before she speaks. Everyone should think before they speak, IMO and the world would be a much more agreeable place.

I just re-watched this, and I have to say it's kind of sad. She didn't get up in front of a group of people with TV cameras on and say it, she said it when she thought no one was listening. With her being an elected official I find that to reprehensible. I wonder, prior to all of this, if she was asked those questions, what her response would have been?

Comparing gay people to terrorists and pedophiles is terrible and it really shows that she's totally out of touch. I have a feeling she just lost her next election.
