As a lot of you know I lost my darling 20 year old cat Dillon 10 days ago. One of the most stressful things I had to deal with (and I see many do) is the constipation that comes with kidney disease and old age. Just a couple of things that I found worked. When Dillon was really trying to go and couldnt, my vet friend said to gently massage him just below the spine at the back end (the fleshy part) and it helps to break down. It worked, you have to be patient but it helped sometimes he would go. Also (you may think this mad, but I was surprised when it worked), my husband said that when his dads birds were eggbound, he held them over steam (not wanting to do this to the cat, I heated up a flannel with hot water and when it was very warm but not hot enough to burn, stuck it under Dillons bum so he was sitting on it, he pooed soon after (dont ask me why it works, perhaps it relaxes the muscles or something).
