We have a long satiny ribbon that became a cat toy, and Smudge in particular loves chasing it around. Smudge has been upstairs most of the day, so I took the ribbon upstairs so she could play with it up there.

A couple of hours later, Stumpy (who never plays with it) came running downstairs, with one end of the ribbon in her mouth dragging it behind her, dropped it in the living room, and walked off.

Apparently it's a downstairs toy, not an upstairs toy.

Do your cats get fussy about where their toys are kept? This is a first for my girls!

back home in VA!
Tigger has all of these feather fluff ball things that none of the other cats really play with he keeps them all in the dog bed if one gets moved he will go get it and bring it back then sit there for a few minutes with it to make sure no one else touches it...If one of the dogs gets it he will follow them around and growl and swat at them till they drop it

I took it back upstairs a couple of hours ago, and she just dragged it back downstairs.
She's so funny to watch, as she stands on and half trips on the ribbon dragging behind her.

Not exactly. Ours know where the toys are kept when they're 'put away', so they can (and do) dig around in it for the toys they want.

That said, Sláine loves to play in the living room (and in one particular corner of said liivng room), and if you're anywhere else in the house and she wants to play, she will howl at you until you get up, and then she will sprint to the play spot, expecting you to follow.

Yeah, Enzo is particular about where his toys are kept. Now and again one of the cats or Thor will take it and play with it elsewhere. Then Enzy will come running along, pick it up and take it to "his spot"
