This is, without a doubt, the hardest KatKwiz to date. However, if you know how to do it, it will take just seconds to find the answer. As always, the cats are aware that the number could change slightly during the contest.

The number of TCS members (both old and new) that have a home page is _________.

Okay, I've come up with 1127. I went into members list, then advanced search. I tried a few different things with the homepage section, eventually by putting in http://www. then hitting search that's the figure I got!!

I got 6517 by going to the member's list, doing an advanced search, and in the home page field using http:// for the search term. i didn't use the www because Comcast web pages, for example, uses http://home.comcast.net and not www.

Yes, please do not give misleading information!
Just fill in the blank.
BTW, when you come up with your various numbers you need to check the list you have came up with to see if they actually have a web page. Just check the top ten you get in your list. Some of the numbers given as an answer give a list that the top ten on that list only have three out of ten that actually have a home page. Oh well, I said it was going to be hard.

And you have locked in the correct answer! The cats checked your answer just as soon as you submitted it!

BRILLIANT!
I never thought we would get a correct answer today. I wanted to keep the points until I saw the results of the poll I am running. (If you have not yet voted in the KatKwiz poll, please do.)

Perhaps I should let you explain how you got your answer but here is how:

First you have to understand how the advanced search works. To begin this puzzle you click on Members List and then on Search Members and then on the drop down Advanced Search. There you see all kinds of scary options but the only one you are interested in is the Home Page option. First, note that it says Most fields will accept a partial input. And partial input means anywhere in the string, not the first character of a string. The question now becomes what is common to all web addresses. I see that many of you used www as the search string but many web addresses do not have www or include http. So what is common? The .! Yes, the dot. So the search engine looks for any home page that has a dot in it, anywhere.

If you got a list back all you had to do was look at the first ten entries to prove www or http just won't work.

We also have a first time winner here!

Fantastic, tutti_bella! 3590 points are coming your way!

CONGRATULATIONS!
You have foiled the cats!

Whoa yeah!

Yup, that is exactly the logic I used to came up with an answer. The (.) is common to all homepage and initially I didn't know if it'll work since the search string is too short. But whatdayaknow, one click and there you go!
