Wow. I knew this is getting to be a divisive issue, but geesh!
I'm so glad to know that because I did smoke for many years, regardless of the fact that I did everything I could to be a considerate smoker even well before it was a real issue, that I have directly caused people's deaths. Might as well just start gunning people down since I'm already guilty of murder.
But it seems that anyone who smokes isn't nearly as important as anyone who doesn't.
Put any smilie after it that you want to, but it still comes across as a pretty darn high and mighty attitude, especially for something that is legal to consume. And yes, there are some very inconsiderate people who smoke, but there are a heck of a lot more who are considerate of non-smokers, who do care about others and how their habit affects others. Face it, alcohol directly affects a whole lot more lives just through drunk driving than smoking does. But you don't hear the same generalizations - that everyone who drinks (no matter how much or little) are idiots, oafs, inconsiderate, or are killing
everyone around them. You may say that about drunk drivers, but not anyone who ever drinks alcohol. But for some reason, it's deemed OK to say those things about smokers.
Like Betsy, I also swore I wouldn't become one of "those people" and I haven't. Congratulations to those of you who have never smoked. But that sure doesn't make you any smarter or better than me because I did. Unless you're saying that you've never ever done anything that may not have been the wisest choice. But then you'd be perfect and I'm pretty sure no one here is perfect.
You know what they say...before casting judgment, walk a mile in the other man's shoes.
