I lost a friend of 18 years today. Spooky Cat followed my youngest daughter home 18 years ago (or so she said). Today he had to be put down. He has had diabetes for over a year and this last week quit eating and got bone thin. We decided last night that the time had come before he felt really terrible. Even so, this is a hard thing. My husband took him this afternoon and stayed with him.
I have two other cats and three dogs. This is just the worst part of having pets. They are part of our family. Candy

Candy, I'm so sorry Spooky Cat is gone. Eighteen years is a long time, and I'm sure you're all devastated. You know that you did what was necessary, however, and you made sure he was not alone. I'm sure he had a wonderful life with a loving family. I pray that you will be blessed with peace of mind and wonderful memories. I know the pain is terrible right now, and you will never forget this little family member, but in time, it will be easier to bear. Someday you'll see him again. I believe that strongly. God bless you.

Candy, I said this in your post in New Cats, but I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a very difficult decision to make, but you know you did what was best for Spooky Cat. He is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, healthy and happy. HUGS

justcandy, thank you for realizing that releasing Spooky earlier than you wanted to was a necessary thing. It was a very loving act to expend on his behalf. The problem is when we make this type of decision, their pain becomes ours and sometimes that is a really hard burden to bear alone. Sharing it with others who have walked the path is helpful.

You have my prayers-
