Hi everyone. I just joined and wanted to say hello.
My son's girlfriend told me about your site. Her id is Going Nova and she and my son have a beautiful kitty named Nova. I consider Nova my Grand-kitten.
I've had cats all my life (sweet kitties and feral kitties) and loved them all. It seems I usually ended up with the most challenging ones but the cat I have now - Banshee - really takes the Difficult to Live With Award.
Banshee has many issues but the worst to live with is her obsession with eating plastic. She will try to eat all soft plastic and a lot of hard plastic but she considers the best plastic grocery store bags. She was with me for about 3 weeks when I noticed the plastic eating. It took me awhile but now my apartment has no soft plastic that she can get to and when I bring in groceries it's a race between she and I to see if I can put groceries away before she can chew a bite of plastic. She also eats cotton - as in towels, clothes, sheets etc. Although finding holes in my clothes, towels, sheets is annoying at least it isn't actually dangerous like plastic eating is. Banshee, also, loves to rip paper books. I'm an avid reader so I have to keep books in cabinets and tupperware. She ripped the final pages from one book I was reading and I had to go to Borders to read the last 2 pages and finish that book. I learned from that experience. She can get into most containers and cabinets so I actually keep my trash in the freezer.
Trash will have plastic in it and I need to keep her safe from it. My son says he's going to get me one of those bear poof containers that you use while camping.
Of course, all of these annoying little behaviors can be overlooked if the cat is sweet and loving but Banshee isn't - she's mean and demanding and terrorizes everyone that comes into the apartment. She attacks and strikes fear into most people. She was a feral kitten and never actually tamed down. She bows up her back, hisses and spits like a cobra. Her vet (who is afraid of her) said she has emotional issues and she's very lucky she has me.
My little troubled black kitty has some wonderful qualities, though. The best is that she fetches like a dog. If I throw cola bottle tops or elastic hair bands she will chase them and bring them to me. She taught me that game when she was just a tiny black kitten. She will allow me to pick her up and cuddle briefly when I come home from work and she will rub against my leg to beg for food but most of the time she isn't interested in cuddles and preferes to sit and stare at me until it's time for me to sastisfy some whim of hers. After all she has her personal slave and can be as naughty and grumpy as she wants.
but I love her!
Sorry this was so long. I'm sure I'll find a lot of interesting posts on your forum.
