I came home from work early today - George was waiting at the door, as usual. How he knew I'd be early is a mystery
Did the usual after work type stuff, and played with George. All of a sudden he started walking around the kitchen area meowing up a storm. Now, he's been doing a lot of talking lately but this "episode" was different. Then he walked down the hallway (towards the bedrooms/bathrooms). I figured he went to use the litterbox but then realized he hadn't returned as usual. I went looking in all the usual nap spots but couldn't find him. The last place I thought I'd find him was under the bed in the guest room. That's where he went when I first brought him home (from the Humane Society) about 9 months ago. It was his safe place - and rarely hides under there any more.

Why did he hide? Can't imagine what freaked him out that he'd need his comfort zone...kind of freaks me out too....

While typing this, he came out from hiding and layed down near me. We've started to do some playing - but still bothered that he needed to retreat to under the bed...

Over the river and through the woods...
Is he eating and using the litter box as normal? Did you bring home any unusual smells, or did anything unusual once you got home?

Was he actually hiding, or maybe just taking a nap? It could be that he wasn't really freaked out about anything, just decided to nap in his old place. Did you try to call him out and he didn't come, or just left him alone?

I know I'm not a lot of help, but I'm not really sure....

W/ the best cats
Cats sometimes go back to their old napping places for no special reason. The only time I would worry is if they do not come out when called.

I agree; I wouldn't worry. In my experience cats love sleeping in places that they can hide away from everyone else. Harry often goes under the bed so I put a blanket under there for him. He always comes out.

Could have been an earthquake or other climate change that humans couldn't pick up on, but which upset the cat. Our family cat used to hide under the sofa before and during a storm.

Georgie is doing it again - meowing up a storm in the kitchen area...hope he doesn't end up under the bed again!
It's almost as if he sees a ghost (I really think there is one in the house!).

He seems to be back to "normal" now - lounging on the back of the chair! He's just been very talkative lately. As long as he doesn't hide under the bed I'm happy
(everything else has been consistant so I don't think its a health issue).

Good news! I hope he is just going through a phase or maybe something invisible was disturbing him. You just never know!
