oh-oh. I think in the U.S. has weight regulations, Germany may want to emulate our military.

70% Smoke, WOW. I wonder what percentage of our military smokes, that is pretty darn high.

Germany still has the draft, and one of the world's lowest birth rates. If the country insists on nonsmokers of ideal weight, it won't have much of an army at all.

Germany has the DRAFT? Whoa, I didn't know that. Don't new recruits have to go through Basic Training in Germany? 8 weeks of that in the U.S. will get a person in shape for sure.

I think the US Army keeps their men and women very active. But I'm not surprised at the high smoker rate. It is a stressful job.

To be fair, you would have to see what the height and weight standards are for the German Army. It was a long time ago but I believe the max weight for my height while I was in was either 165-170 pounds. I was at, or below, that weight only once during my enlistment and that was after Desert Storm. The rest of the time I was in my weight would fluccuate between 180-190 pounds but I always passed my PFTs and met the body fat standards. I was heavy but not fat, if I failed a PFT I would have been put into what is affectionately known as "The Fat Boy Program".

I don't know what the percentage would be but there are a lot of smokers in the military.
